Independence Prepares for Road Construction Project

Drivers in Independence will soon have better roads in the downtown area.

City engineer John Garris says, the reason for the increase is simply because materials are more expensive.

The City had considered re-bidding the project but decided against that course of action because the costs were unlikely to change. Garris adds that, once the work begins, it will take place mostly at night to minimize the effect of traffic.

Sedan Deals With Aftermath of Misunderstanding in the Hollow

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has rescinded a boil water advisory for the City of Caney public water supply system.

The advisory was issued June 24th because of a line break resulting in a loss of pressure. Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.

Regardless of whether it’s the supplier or KDHE that announces a boil water advisory, KDHE will issue the rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory.

Laboratory testing samples collected from the City of Caney indicate no evidence of bacteriological contamination and all other conditions that placed the system at risk of contamination are deemed by KDHE officials to be resolved.
