Two men are in custody following a Wednesday evening altercation in a southeast Kansas park.
Just after 6pm on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Galena Police and Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputies were called to Schermerhorn Park Creek in Galena after reports of a verbal exchange between a large group of individuals. Reports indicated that a suspect had assaulted park goers and their children by brandishing a weapon and then fleeing the scene.
Police in Baxter Springs were able to locate the suspect and stopped his vehicle. Arrested on the scene were 23-year-old Skylar Matthew Howey of Commerce, OK, and 34-year-old Anthony Wayne Tiger of Baxter Springs. Howey is charged with multiple counts of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated endangering a child and possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol. Tiger is charged with Possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Both men were taken to the Cherokee County Jail.
