The Labette County Commission votes 2-1 to approve county-wide zoning regulations. This week's meeting location had to be moved to the courtroom to accommodate the overflowing crowd. Commissioner Vince Schibi says he's making his decision based on what he feels is best for the county.
Those opposed to the regulations made their final plea to the commission, but Commissioners Schibi and Terry Weidert decided to proceed with the motion to approve.
Zoning Administrator Mel Haas says the scope of the zoning regulations for conditional use applies to eleven different areas. Once the regulations are officially published they will go into effect. Commissioner Schibi is not up for re-election this year but Commissioners Weidert and Cole Proehl are and both have opponents in the upcoming primary.
