Southeast Kansas Cities Receive State Funding for Road Repair

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly announces $26 million to communities for road improvement projects.

The funding comes through the Kansas Department of Transportation City Connecting Link Improvement Program or C-CLIP. The City of Independence received $1.5 million from the program. City Engineer John Garris says the money will go to repair a much-used section of road.

Garris says KDOT awards the funding based on an equation that includes the age of the roadway and the amount of traffic it sees.

Other area cities receiving funding include Coffeyville, which was awarded $1.2 million and Yates Center, which will get $1.5 million. Projects in Winfield, Ark City, and Pittsburg will also receive C-CLIP funds.
