KDWP Has New Tool for Searching Lakes and Waterways

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks has a new tool at its disposal for searching the murky waters of Kansas lakes and waterways.

The agency recently acquired two Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicles capable of searching with sonar. KDWP plans to use one device for the eastern part of the state and the other for the western part. The ROV is equipped with a camera, lights, and a mechanical arm in addition to the sonar. Game wardens say the new device was used in a recovery operation last May, greatly aiding recovery efforts. Officers from KDWP spent part of their day on Wednesday training on the new device at El Dorado Lake, where they were able to locate a mesh cage hidden in the water.
