Good Samaritan Dies in Tragic Acciden

A Good Samaritan is killed while trying to help in a tragic northeast Kansas accident.

The accident occurred on I-35 just outside of Merriam, Kansas, on Saturday afternoon around 2 o'clock. A vehicle driven by 25-year-old Paula Baird of Kansas City, KS, was stalled in one of the southbound lanes due to a previous accident when it was struck from behind by a 2010 Jeep Liberty driven by 21-year-old Jocelin Laynez-Flores from Guatemala. 17-year-old Benjamin Van Buskirk of Olathe was a passenger in a third, non-involved vehicle. Van Buskirk had exited his vehicle in an attempt to render aid when he was struck by the Jeep and killed. Baird, the driver of the stalled vehicle, was seriously injured and taken to KU Medical Center for treatment.
