Altamont Fire Chief Resigns

The Altamont fire chief resigns.

In a letter to Labette County commissioners, Altamont Fire Chief Bryson Shaffer says after the zoning decision at last Monday's commission meeting he has come to the realization that his efforts are no longer needed, and he feels like his voice is no longer heard. At the July 8th meeting the Labette County Commission voted 2-1 to adopt county-wide zoning regulations. Shaffer says he was a fourth-generation fire chief for Altamont and has spent over 25 years with the department.

Keith Shaffer, a board member of the Labette County 911 Committee, the Labette County Fire Chiefs Coordinator and the County First Responders representative, also emailed commissioners a resignation letter. The Altamont Fire Department serves as mutual aid for the City of Parsons and the volunteer fire departments for the entire county.
