Parsons Police Have New Tool to Combat DUI

The Parsons Police Department receives two new Intoximeters Alco-Sensors from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The Intoximeters are hand-held breath sensors used to test for alcohol consumption. The new meters are funded through P-P-D's participation in the Special Traffic Enforcement Program or STEP. They are valued at $1,200 and will aid officers in the detection and investigation of DUIs, DUI crashes, and other alcohol-related offenses.

Special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) is a KDOT-sponsored public education and enforcement partnership with local and state police agencies aimed at increasing travelers’ compliance with Kansas occupant restraint and impaired driving laws. Enforcement is accomplished through four annual campaigns consisting of an agency’s checkpoints or special action activities. Each campaign has a principal focus--DUI, occupant restraint, or both--and each goes after speeders and texters, as well. The campaigns are linked to Thanksgiving, New Year's Eve, Memorial Day and Labor Day.
