The Kansas Department of Transportation will soon start a project to add passing lanes on both sides of U.S. 400 in Cherokee County.
Starting the week of July 22nd, the project area will start 4 miles east of K-7 at Cherokee and continue east for 1.6 miles. Traffic will be carried through the project with lane shifts as needed. During later phases, a pilot car operation will intermittently control one-lane traffic in the work zone, with delays of 15 minutes or less expected during daylight hours. The road work should be completed by the summer of 2025, weather permitting. KDOT awarded the $7.2 million construction contract to Bettis Asphalt & Construction Inc. of Topeka.
