Hutchinson Man Arrested After Police Chase

 

 A Hutchinson man is in custody after leading police on a high-speed chase yesterday afternoon.

 

 According to Hutchinson Police, officers located a wanted subject 36-year-old James Smith near 11th Avenue and Severance Streets in Hutchinson. Before they were able to make contact with him, Smith fled the area in a vehicle.

 

Smith was located again about a half hour later. This time, Smith was armed with a handgun. When he noticed officer from the Kansas Highway Patrol, he fled again. Troopers began a pursuit and followed as Smith ran a stop sign and struck another vehicle. Smith then left his own vehicle and fled on foot, firing a shot from his handgun as he ran. He was taken into custody shortly after. Authorities believe Smith was not firing his weapon at officers.

            

Smith was taken into custody and booked on multiple felonies including Felony Flee and Eluding and Criminal Discharge of a Firearm.

 

One citizen sustained minor injuries from the crash during the incident.
