Oklahoma Man Attempts to Flee Police by Swimming in Creek

 

 An Oklahoma man is in custody after attempting to flee from police in Mayes County, OK, by swimming in Chouteau Creek.

 

 Police received a call about a suspicious person on Sunday around 11am and that the man was screaming and causing a disturbance. Police arrived on the scene to find Thomas Meeker, who had active warrants for his arrest out of the Cherokee Nation. Meeker resisted arrest and assaulted deputies before jumping into Chouteau Creek, where he swam for nearly an hour. He then exited the water and fled into nearby woods where he was eventually taken into custody. He is currently being held in the Mayes County Jail and faces multiple charges including two felonies.
