Seven positions are expected to be laid off at the John Deere plant in Coffeyville next month.
These layoffs locally coincide with over 900 layoffs across four plants in Illinois and Iowa. UAW Local 2366 President Justin Martin releases a statement on the local layoffs.
The layoffs in Coffeyville are effective August 9th, while those at East Moline, Illinois and Dubuque and Davenport, Iowa are effective August 30th. The over 300 layoffs in Waterloo, Iowa are effective September, 20th.
In a statement to the Des Moines Register, John Deere says these changes are being made due to reduced demand for the products produced at these facilities. Industry sales are expected to decline 20% from 2023 to 2024.
