North Korea National Indicted for Ransomware Attack against Kansas Hospital

The U.S. Attorney's office in Kansas announces the indictment of a North Korean national in connection to a ransomware attack against a Kansas hospital.

The indictment against Rim Jong Hyok came down late last week. The U.S. Attorney for the District of Kansas says the Department of justice has identified 17 victims of the hacking campaign was conducted by a hacking group known as Andarial. The FBI says Rim is also accused of targeting U.S. government offices and military bases. He may be difficult top bring to justice, however, since federal authorities believe Rim is still in North Korea.

The justice Department says ransomware attacks have cost U.S. companies tens of billions of dollars. Authorities have not specified which Kansas hospital was targeted in the attacks.
