Newly Orphaned Baby Bears Settle in to New Home at Wichita Zoo

A pair of orphaned black bear cubs are settling into their new home at the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita.

The two cubs were found in Oregon after their mother was killed when they were only three months old. Since they were unable to survive on their own, they were taken in by Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon.

The Sedgwick County Zoo arranged to take the cubs after the Zoo's black bear Mitch passed away last year, due to age-related issues.

The male cub is named Takelma after the Native American tribe that lived where the cubs were found. The female is named Sama, which means 'summer in the Takelma language. The cubs are not yet on public display but zoo goers might catch a glimpse of the pair during their supervised outdoor exercise time in the bear enclosure.
