Firefighters Injured in Galena House Fire

A house fire in Galena leaves a home in shambles and injures four firefighters.

Cherokee County 911 was alerted to a house fire on East 2nd Street Wednesday. The call came in around 12:30pm. The structure was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived on scene, with the blaze burning with such intensity that the entire roof was destroyed. Due to that and the 90 degree heat, it took firefighters nearly three hours to control the blaze. Fire crews from Galena Fire, Baxter, Columbus, Carl Junction, and Quapaw responded along with Cherokee County EMS.

All residents of the house were able to safely escape. Four firefighters suffered injuries, including heat exhaustion. They were treated at the scene and released.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
