A Galena man is arrested after fleeing from and fighting with police.
This weekend, the Galena Police Department was notified of a physical altercation around 11th and Keller Street. As officers arrived one of the individuals took off on foot. During their pursuit, the man attempted to enter three residences and then ended up taking a bicycle from a woman as she rode past him. He eventually ditched the bike and ran into a wooded area, crossing a fence line into a thick brush. After officers caught up to the man, he continued to resist. As officers placed hand restraints on him, he spit, attempted to smear blood and other body fluids on the arresting officers and made threats to all responding personnel.
The officers restrained the man and identified him as 45-year-old Raymond L. Williams. He was carried out of the wooded area and transported to the Hospital for medical evaluation. Once cleared by the hospital, he was transported to the Cherokee County Jail. Williams is facing charges of aggravated battery, interference with a law enforcement officer, assault and criminal threat. This is an ongoing investigation, and more charges may be requested.
