Ravens Split Home Doubleheader with Cowley

The Red Ravens hosted the Cowley Tigers for a doubleheader battle on Saturday afternoon, with each team claiming one of the two games.

Cowley won the opener 5-4 in eight innings, after the two teams went back and forth the entire game. Nathon Cruz and Landon Midgett both homered for CCC, while Jackson Waggoner pitched well on the mound. A Weston Thomas sacrifice fly was the game-winning run for Cowley in the eighth.

The Ravens would respond in the second game, winning 8-6 over Cowley. Coffeyville would score six in the opening inning, including a two-run single from catcher Ethan Gillespie.

The Raven pitching staff would hold the lead, despite a three-run fifth from the Tigers. Caleb Peek was able to lock down the victory for CCC.

Coffeyville battles Oklahoma Wesleyan JV on Wednesday before resuming conference play with KCK on Thursday.

KSU Women's Basketball Falls in Sweet 16

A magical season for Kansas State women's basketball comes to an end in the Sweet 16, with the Wildcats falling to top seed USC 67-61 on Saturday.

It was a slow start for KSU, who found themselves down seven after the opening quarter, but battled back to take a two-point lead into the locker room at halftime.

The No. 1 seed Trojans were able to do just enough down the stretch to keep a two-possession lead and hold off a late KSU rally. Serena Sundell had 22 points to lead the Wildcats, while Ayoka Lee had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the final game of her college career.

KSU has their season end with a 28-8 record, while USC advances to play UConn tonight, with a Final Four spot on the line.

Royals Drop Opening Series to Guardians

The Kansas City Royals came up short in the first rubber match of the 2025 season, dropping the series finale to the Cleveland Guardians 6-2 at Kauffman Stadium.

Michael Wacha struggled with command in his first start of the season, walking four batters in four innings of work. Manager Matt Quatraro says Wacha was laboring on the mound.

Hunter Renfroe had a run-scoring double for KC, while Bobby Witt Jr drove in the other Royals run. Kyle Manzardo of Cleveland hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, his second blast of the weekend.

Quatraro says the weekend still had some bright spots, despite the losses.

Kansas City goes on the road for the first time this season to battle the Milwaukee Brewers. The opener can be heard this afternoon beginning at 12:30 p.m. CT on Sonshine 98.9 KQQF.

Red Raven Baseball Hosts Cowley for Doubleheader

The Red Ravens return home to Walter Johnson Park for a Saturday afternoon matchup with the No. 5 Cowley Tigers.

Coffeyville enters the weekend two games back of first place, with Cowley and Johnson County sharing the top spot. The Ravens dropped a pair of games to the Tigers in Arkansas City, losing 8-7 in Game 1 and 16-6 in Game 2.

Head Coach Jake Martin says the Tigers are talented, but his team controls their own destiny.

Coffeyville and Cowley both boast one of the league's top starting rotations, with the teams No. 1 and No. 2 in staff earned run average. The Red Ravens use a four-man rotation of Cross Dowd, Si Collins, Jackson Waggoner, and Easton Renn, each returning sophomores with valuable experience.

Martin says he never has to stress about his starting rotation.

Coverage of tomorrow's Cowley-Coffeyville doubleheader can be heard on Sonshine 98.9 KQQF, with pregame at 12:50 p.m. CT and first pitch at 1.

KSU WBB Battles USC in Sweet 16

The Kansas State Wildcats have made it to the second weekend of the Women's Tournament for the first time in more than two decades, and battle the USC Trojans for a spot in the Elite Eight.

KSU enters the matchup 28-7 and the No. 5 seed in the Spokane Region, while USC is the top seed at 30-3 on the season. The Trojans will be without All-American JuJu Watkins, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in the previous round.

USC will lean on graduate student Kiki Iriafen to help with the loss of Watkins, with Iriafen averaging nearly 19 points per game, and also leading the team in rebounds.

With a win, KSU would advance to their first Elite Eight since 1982, and just the second appearance in program history. Coverage of tomorrow night's Sweet 16 matchup can be found at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN and the ESPN app. The winner would play the winner of UConn and Oklahoma in the Elite Eight.

KJCCC Men's Teams Defeated, Women's Teams Still Alive

The National Tournament is approaching a conclusion, and a pair of Jayhawk conference teams are still alive in the bid for a national championship.

The Barton Cougars men fell to Daytona State College in a 73-70 defeat on Tuesday. Brent Moss had 28 points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars, but guard Dre Kindell was held to just five points, battling foul trouble. Barton finishes the season 26-9.

Cowley also had their season come to an end, falling 61-60 to the Trinity Valley Cardinals. KJCCC Player of the Year Marcus Whitlock had 22 points, but free throw line struggles hurt the Tigers late. Cowley finishes the season 30-5.

The Hutchinson and Dodge City women's teams are still alive in the championship chase. The Blue Dragons won a close battle with South Georgia Tech, and play this afternoon against No. 6 seed Three Rivers. Dodge City earned a convincing win against Arizona Western, and await their Quarterfinal opponent tomorrow.

Royals Fall Short on Opening Day

The dream of a perfect season comes to an end, as the Kansas City Royals fall in extra innings on Opening Day.

Kansas City jumped out to an early lead, thanks to a third inning three-run home run from Vinnie Pasquantino.

Cleveland kept the pressure on, scoring one run in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth to take the lead. Rookie Kyle Manzardo had three hits and four runs batted in, including a home run and double.

The Royals would tie the game in the bottom of the ninth on a Michael Massey sacrifice fly, but a three-run 10th inning for the Guardians proved fatal in a 7-4 win for Cleveland.

Royals Manager Matt Quatraro says the Guardians executed better down the stretch.

Kansas City will continue the series tomorrow afternoon, sending Seth Lugo to the mound, before wrapping up the series on Sunday afternoon.

Nado Score Nine in the 7th for Comeback Win

Field Kindley baseball wins their first game of the season 15-8 at Labette County.

The Grizzlies got things started with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and chasing the Nado starter, Sam Stukesbary, after just one inning. Labette would tack on another run in the second extending their lead to 4-0. Coffeyville would cut into the lead scoring one in the fourth before taking the lead 6-4 with five runs in the fifth.

Labette would take the lead back scoring three runs off Riley Robson in the bottom the six. Coffeyville would head into the final inning trailing 8-6. The Nado offense would erupt with a nine run seventh inning to take the lead. Coffeyville scored seven of their nine seventh inning runs with two outs. Cane Wheeler walked in the game tying run and a Jaxin Hershey single would clear the bases and give the Nado the lead. Hershey would close the door on the Labette offense in the bottom of the seventh and secure the Nado win.

Hayden Main went 3/5 with four RBIs, Hershey and Stukesbary added three more RBIs each and Wheeler, Robson and Damarius Smith would add one each. The Nado improve to 1-1 and are back in action on Monday at Parsons.

Raven Football Schedule Released

Red Raven football is looking to build off a co-conference championship season, and now know the path they will take with the release of the 2025 schedule.

Coffeyville opens the season on September 6th against the Cisco Wranglers at Veterans Memorial Stadium. CCC traveled to Texas last season for a matchup with Cisco, winning 37-19.

There will be opportunities for the Ravens to avenge 2024 losses as well, traveling to Garden City on September 20th (although the game was later forfeited by Garden due to an ineligible player), Iowa Western at home on October 4th, and Hutchinson on the road on October 25th.

Additional games of note include Butler at home on September 27th, Homecoming against Iowa Central on October 18th, and the final game of the season at Independence on November 15th.

Royals Open Season with Guardians

It's a new beginning across Major League Baseball, as the Kansas City Royals kick off the 2025 season at Kauffman Stadium.

Kansas City opens the season against the reigning AL Central Division champion Cleveland Guardians, a high-profile matchup in a division that could see four postseason contenders this season.

Two of the top pitchers in baseball go head to head this afternoon, with Cleveland ace Tanner Bibee opposing Royals star Cole Ragans. Ragans says it's a unique feeling to get the season started.

This is the third time Cleveland and Kansas City have met on Opening Day in the past six seasons. The Royals won the season series 8-5 in 2024.

Coverage of Opening Day begins at 2:30 p.m. CT this afternoon, with first pitch at 3:10, on the Mighty 690 KGGF.

Ravens' Dowd Named Pitcher of Week

Red Raven baseball has had one of the league's best pitching staffs thus far this season, and the leader of the staff was recognized as the KJCCC East PItcher of the Week.

Sophomore right-hander Cross Dowd improved to 3-2 on the season with a complete-game performance in CCC's 5-1 win over Highland. The win sparked a four-game sweep of the Scotties, and propeled the Ravens into a first-place tie in the conference standings.

Dowd fired seven innings, allowing only one run on five hits, while striking out seven Highland hitters. The Anderson, Missouri, product has thrown 29.1 innings on the season, and has a 2.45 ERA with only 19 hits allowed on the season.

Cross Dowd will be on the mound this afternoon when the Ravens open a series with the Cowley Tigers, with two games in Arkansas City today, before two games at Walter Johnson Park on Saturday afternoon.

Raven Softball Splits Doubleheader

Red Raven softball split a home doubleheader with the Connors State Cowgirls, improving to 5-13 on the season.

The Cowgirls held on to win the opener 6-5, despite a late rally for the Red Ravens with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. Coffeyville players Raya Eilert, Teagan Titus, Katelynn Siess, and Breanna Banks all had multiple hits in the loss.

The Lady Ravens were able to bounce back in the second game of the doubleheader, winning 15-7. Coffeyville had the bats working early, scoring four in the first, one in the third, two in the fourth, four in the fifth, and four in the sixth. Freshman Kaylee Henderson had three hits and six runs batted in, including her fourth home run of the season.

Coffevyille will return to action this afternoon, as they host the Cloud County Thunderbirds in doubleheader action. The first game gets underway at 1 p.m. CT with Game 2 around 3 p.m., from Byers Field.

Red Raven Baseball Sweeps Highland

Red Raven baseball keeps the winning ways going, sweeping the Highland Scotties in a four-game series.

The Ravens won both games at Walter Johnson Park, winning 5-1 and 14-12 in the first two games of the series. The team took their momentum on the road, winning 14-2 and 10-3 in the two games in Highland on Saturday.

Head Coach Jake Martin says the team has done a good job of battling.

The Ravens have been led by leadoff hitter Eric Bacon, who is hitting over .400 on the season with 24 runs batted in and 15 total extra-base hits. Martin says Bacon has become one of the best players in the league.

Coffeyville is tied at the top of the league standings with a 9-3 league record, tied with Cowley and Johnson County. CCC begins a four-game series with Cowley tomorrow afternoon, with a pair of games in Arkansas City.

KU Football Reveals Facility Upgrades

Kansas Athletics has announced several new changes to the Anderson Family Football Complex, the home of Kansas Jayhawks football.

The newest additions include a brand-new walkthrough space, team room, and additional meeting spaces. The upgrades come after recent upgrades to the weight room, locker room, athletic training space, staff meeting rooms, and more.

The brand-new walkthrough space features a 2,400 square foot space with a videoboard to deliver in-game scenarios to be used for gameday preparation. The new team room overlooks David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, and features a theatre-style seating with 180 custom Jayhawk seats, to be used for team meetings and events.

The newly renovated David Booth Memorial Stadium is set to reopen in August of 2025, and more upgrades are on the agenda, including a new team dining area, new team entrance to the stadium, and enhanced equipment room.

Oklahoma Wesleyan Falls in National Championship

Oklahoma Wesleyan's quest for a national championship comes up just short, as the Eagles fall in the national championship game in Kansas City.

OKWU was the tournament's No. 7 seed and pulled off numerous upsets to advance to the title game, but could not overcome the No. 1 seed College of Idaho, who wins the championship 93-65.

The Eagles found themselves down big early, after the Coyotes hit eight of their first ten 3-point shots, leading to a 49-29 halftime score.

This was OKWU's first appearance in the title game since the 2009 championship season. The Eagles finish the season with a record of 28-8.

Royals Set Opening Day Pitching Staff

The Kansas City Royals have made the final roster moves necessary to set the Opening Day 13-man pitching staff for the 2025 season.

The starting rotation will be led by ace Cole Ragans, who takes the mound for the season opener on Thursday afternoon. Ragans will be followed in the rotation by Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, Michael Lorenzen, and Kris Bubic.

Bubic earned the final rotation spot after pitching out of the bullpen during the 2024 season.

The bullpen will be headlined by the big three of Lucas Erceg, Hunter Harvey, and free agent signing Carlos Estevez. John Schreiber, Chris Stratton, Angel Zerpa, Sam Long, and Daniel Lynch IV round out the eight-man relief group.

Kansas City boasts one of the deepest and most talented pitching staffs in baseball, and will hope the staff can carry them back to the postseason. The team opens the season on Thursday afternoon against the Cleveland Guardians, with coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m. CT on the Mighty 690, KGGF.

For the boy's side of the league, West Elk's Maddex Moreno was first-team All-SCBL while Patriot junior Garett Usry was Honorable Mention. Sedan's Jackson Dowell was second-team all-league following his senior season.

Cedarvale/Dexter's Maverick Schalk was second-team all-conference, while Marko Robles was named an Honorable Mention.

Pitt State WBB Star Named All-American

Pittsburg State continues to add memories to one of the best seasons in program history, with a senior student athlete accomplishing a historic feat.

Guard Grace Pyle earned NCAA Division II All-American honors from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Pyle was named honorable mention All-America, after receiving first-team All-MIAA honors for the second consecutive season. She becomes the first All-American for the program since Mikaela Burgess in 2017-18, and just the tenth in school history.

Pyle says it's a collective award for the entire roster.

Pyle ranks top-10 in school history in scoring, three-pointers made, and assists. Grace and the Gorillas play in the Final Four against Grand Valley State tomorrow night.

Nado Drop Game One to Baxter Springs

Field Kindley baseball starts the season 0-1 after a 13-1 loss to Baxter Springs.

The Lions got things started quickly in the first inning as they scored seven of their eight runs in the inning before recording an out. Hayden Main got the start for the Nado but was pulled with the bases loaded and no outs for Riley Robson, who was able to get out of the inning. Coffeyville would get one run back in the bottom of the first after four straight walks by Baxter Springs.

After nine runs were scored combined in the first inning, both teams were held scoeless through the second third and fourth innings. Baxter Springs would get their bats going again in the top of the fifth scoring five runs and putting the run rule in play. The Nado needed three runs to keep the game alive but Lions pitching shut them down ending the game in the fifth.

Coffeyville is back in action on Thursday on the road at Labette County.

Royals Make Late Roster Moves

With Opening Day just days away, the Kansas City Royals are making late additions to the roster in preparation for the 2025 season.

The team acquired outfielder Mark Canha from the Milwaukee Brewers, in exchange for cash considerations or a player to be named later. Canha is 36 years old, and has spent time with four different teams in his ten-year MLB career.

Manager Matt Quatraro says the team is excited to add a versatile player like Canha.

Kansas City frequently uses bench players in platoon roles, or for pinch hitting or baserunning opportunities. Quatraro says Canha fits the team identity of guys that can do it all.

Canha had three hits in his Royals debut in the final game of spring training, and will travel with the team back to Kauffman Stadium for the season opener on Thursday.

KSU Women's Basketball Off to Sweet 16

For the first time in more than two decades, the Kansas State Wildcats women's basketball team is heading to the Sweet 16.

The team won a thriller over No. 4 seed Kentucky yesterday, surviving for an 80-79 overtime win. The Wildcats battled back from down five with under two minutes to play, and made key plays late to advance to the second weekend.

Head Coach Jeff Mittie says he's proud of the team's resilience in the victory.

Ayoka Lee continued to contribute since her return from injury, adding 16 points and nine rebounds. Serena Sundell finished with 19 points and 14 assists as well.

Mittie says the team has found their stride at the perfect time.

KSU will look to punch their ticket to the Elite Eight, when they match up with the winner of USC and Mississippi State later this week.

Former Newton Wrestler Wins National Title

A former Kansas star high school wrestler reached the mountain top at the collegiate level, in one of the biggest upsets in college wrestling history.

Wyatt Hendrickson of Oklahoma State University, and formerly of Newton High School, defeated Olympic Champion Gable Stevenson of Minnesota to capture the 285 pound NCAA championship.

Hendrickson was in his first season with the Cowboys, following time at the Air Force Academy, where he ranks as a second lieutenant. Stevenson had not lost a college match since 2019, and was a gold medalist at the 2024 Olympics in the freestyle wrestling event.

Hendrickson becomes the first NCAA champion wrestler from the state of Kansas since Kendric Maple, who won with Oklahoma in 2013 after attending Wichita Heights High School.

Chiefs Resign Smith-Schuster/Hunt

The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing back a pair of familiar faces, agreeing to one-year deals with both a veteran wide receiver and running back.

JuJu Smith-Schuster has agreed to a one-year contract to return to Kansas City, after playing 14 games in 2024, and catching 18 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Smith-Schuster was the leading receiver on the 2022 championship team, catching 78 passes for 933 yards in the Super Bowl season.

The team also agreed to a one-year deal with running back Kareem Hunt, worth up to $2.5 million. Hunt will join a running back room that returns Isiah Pacheco from injury, and also added former San Francisco 49er Elijah Mitchell last week.

Hunt was a 2017 draft pick of the Chiefs, and led the team in rushing last season with 728 yards and seven touchdowns, following an injury to Pacheco. The running back has 5,164 rushing yards in his eight-year career.

Jayhawks Season Comes to End

A tournament run was not in the cards this year for the Kansas Jayhawks, who have their season come to an end in the opening round with a 79-72 loss to Arkansas.

The Jayhawks were led by Zeke Mayo's 18 points, while AJ Storr had one of his best games of the season, contributing 15 off the bench. KU led 67-64 with three minutes to go, but Arkansas would end the game on a 15-5 run.

Head Coach Bill Self says despite the result, he's proud of the effort.

It was a mostly underwhelming season for KU, who finished outside of the Top 5 in the Big 12 conference, and just a No. 7 seed in the NCAA tournament. Self says the program needs to look in the mirror for answers.

The Jayhawks finish the season 21-13, and lose key pieces in Hunter Dickinson, Mayo, DeJuan Harris, and KJ Adams.

Former ICC Coach Suing Netflix over Last Chance U

A former Independence Community College football coach and star of the Netflix series Last Chance U is suing the platform for $30 million.

Jason Brown has filed a lawsuit against Netflix, seeking $10 million in lost income, $10 million for reputational damage, and $10 million for emotional distress. Brown joins players from East Mississippi State, who were featured in the first two seasons of the show, and also filed a lawsuit a month ago.

Brown says he is entitled to compensation for the role he played in the show's success.

Last Chance U aired from 2016-2020 and showcased the lives and football careers of junior college players across the country. Independence was the featured school in both Season 3 and Season 4, which aired in 2018 and 2019.

Brown resigned at ICC in February of 2019 after offensive text messages he sent to a former athlete were made public.

Nado Baseball Season Starts Monday

Field Kindley baseball seasons starts next week as the Nado take on Baxter Springs.

Head Coach Will Owens is headed into his fourth season as the head coach. He says he has seen this group of seniors and juniors play a lot of baseball.

Nado baseball games will make their debut on Sonshine 98.9 KQQF this season with eight games being broadcast. Coach Owens says that should add to the excitement they've been trying to bring to the game.

The Nado start their season at home with Baxter Springs at 4:30pm on Monday. You can hear the full interview with Coach Owens here.

Royals Top Prospect Sent Down after Impressive Spring

Despite an incredible effort this spring to make the Opening Day roster, the Royals top prospect has been sent back to minor league camp and will begin 2025 in Double-A.

Jac Caglianone hit three homers and had an OPS nearing 1.900 on the spring, also showing improvements defensively and cutting down on strikeout rate.

The first baseman will look to continue momentum as he will begin the season with the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals. The potential to be promoted to Triple-A Omaha, and eventually Kansas City, depends on the production and success the 22-year old continues to have.

Caglianone is the No. 22 prospect in all of baseball, and the top in the KC organization. He is expected by man to make his Major League debut at some point in 2025, just a year after being drafted out of the University of Florida.

Jayhawks Battle Arkansas in NCAA Tournament

The road to an NCAA Championship begins today for 32 Division 1 schools, including the Kansas Jayhawks, who battle the Arkansas Razorbacks in Providence, Rhode Island.

KU enters the matchup 21-12 on the season, and the No. 7 seed in the West Region, while Arkansas is 20-13 and the No. 10 seed in the region. Jayhawks Coach Bill Self says he expected a tough tournament road.

Arkansas is getting a key player back, as freshman guard Boogie Fland returns from injury after missing the past two months. Self says the Razorbacks are tough, but so are they.

Coverage of KU-Arkansas begins this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. CT on Greatest Hits 104.1 FM, with tip off scheduled for 6:10. The winner of tonight's game will play the winner of St. John's and Omaha on Saturday.

Coffeyville's Brian Griffith was named first-team all-conference, while Rashid Kuta, Daniel Ntambwe, and Trenton Ruth were named second-team all-league. Justin Taylor was honorable mention.

Kansas State WBB Star Nearing Return

Kansas State women's basketball could be receiving a massive reinforcement, just in time for the NCAA Tournament.

Senior forward Ayoka Lee has not suited up for the Wildcats in two months after suffering a fracture in her foot. Since the injury, KSU has fallen from 19-1 to 26-7 entering the tournament.

Lee has been practicing with the team this week, and is on track to play when the team battles No. 12 seed Fairfield on Friday in the opening round.

The senior is one of the best players in program history, averaging 15.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season. Lee holds program records in points, rebounds, blocks, double-doubles, and field goals made. She also holds the NCAA record for most points in a single game, with 61 scored in a game against Oklahoma in 2022.

Raven Baseball Wins 3 of 4 vs Allen Co

It was a strong weekend series for Red Raven baseball, as the team takes three of four games from the Allen County Red Devils.

Cross Dowd pitched a shutout in the series opener, with Eric Bacon hitting a home run, and Landin Midgett driving in two in an 11-0 five inning victory.

Game 2 was a 7-6 Raven win, with Bacon adding three more hits, and Carson Miller reaching base three times. Si Collins pitched five innings, with Caleb Peek earning the save.

Allen County got their lone series win in Game 3, winning 12-11 in eight innings. Miller and Nathon Cruz were the top hitters for CCC, and Martin Malick hitting a grand slam for the Red Devils.

CCC bounced back in the series finale, winning 10-0 in five innings. Cooper Jarnagin hit a three-RBI double, while Cruz contributed two hits as well. Easton Renn threw a complete game shutout, improving to 4-0 on the season.

The Red Ravens are 13-7 on the season, and begin a series with Highland tomorrow afternoon.

West Virginia Governor Furious with Tournament Snub

The NCAA Tournament is underway across Division 1 college basketball, and one state's governor is not happy about how the bracket was made.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey gave a heated statement earlier this week, after the decision to leave the Moutaineers out of the tournament despite a 19-13 record, and more Quad 1 victories than fellow contender North Carolina.

Morrisey says the committee has a major problem pertaining to bias.

The committee revealed that a major reason WVU did not qualify for the tournament was the major injury to star guard Tucker DeVries. Morrisey says none of this makes any sense.

UNC received the final spot in the tournament pool, and defeated San Diego State in the First Four last night.

Chiefs Sign OL From 49ers

After massive struggles at the left tackle position last season, the Kansas City Chiefs have invested in a young talent that they hope can be the solution.

Kansas City agreed to a two year, $30 million deal with Jaylon Moore, who has played four NFL seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, mostly in a reserve role.

Moore has appeared in 55 games in the league, starting 12, and was a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft out of Western Michigan. Despite the lack of true starting experience, Moore brings impressive size, athleticism, and instincts, and was impressive in spurts during his first four seasons.

Kansas City cycled through Kingsley Suamataia, Wanya Morris, D.J. Humphries, and Joe Thuney throughout last season, with Thuney being traded to the Chicago Bears earlier this offseason.

Butler Football Coach Stepping Down

The Jayhawk conference will see a change in head coach at Butler, after Brice Vignery announced his resignation following three seasons as coach, and more than 17 years with the program.

Vignery was named head coach at Butler in December of 2021, and had a 20-13 overall record, winning the Heart of Texas Bowl in the 2022 season, and helping the Grizzlies to a co-conference championship with Hutchinson and Coffeyville in 2024. He coached seven NJCAA All-Americans and over 60 All-Jayhawk conference picks.

He also played at Butler in 2006-07, winning two Region VI titles and the 2007 national championship. He served as assistant receiver coach, running back coach, and offensive coordinator in his time before becoming head coach.

Vignery will be taking a position on Lance Leipold's staff with the Kansas Jayhawks. Butler defensive coordinator Kyle Woodall will serve as interim head coach until the search for a new head coach is completed.

Four KJCCC Teams Earn National Tournament Bids

Two teams on both the men's and women's side of the KJCCC conference have punched their ticket to the 2025 National Tournament.

On the women's side, Region VI champion Dodge City received an automatic bid, and is the No. 4 overall seed, awaiting the winner of Arizona Western and State Fair Community College.

Hutchinson received an at-large bid following a 28-4 season, and is the No. 11 seed, playing South Georgia Tech in the opening round.

For the men, Region VI champion Cowley received the automatic bid after a 29-4 season, and are the No. 2 overall seed, and will play the winner of Triton College and Columbia State Community College.

The at-large bid went to the Barton Cougars, who enter as the No. 9 seed, and play Brunswick Community College in the opening round.

Ragans Named Opening Day Starter

For the second straight season, the Royals will be relying on their young ace to set the tone on Opening Day.

Left-handed pitcher Cole Ragans will get the ball next Thursday when the Royals open the 2025 season against the Cleveland Guardians at Kauffman Stadium.

It is the second consecutive Opening Day start for Ragans, who has shined as the leader of the KC staff since being acquired from the Texas Rangers in 2023. Across 32 starts last season, he posted a 3.14 ERA and 223 strikeouts, the third most in a season in Royals history.

Ragans was also a first-time All-Star in 2024, and started two postseason games for the team. He finished fourth in the Cy Young voting after the 2024 season, and will look to lead the Royals rotation back to October in 2025.

Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, Michael Lorenzen, and Kris Bubic are expected to round out the starting rotation.

Lady Ravens Fall in Region Championship

The Lady Raven run to the Region VI Championship game comes up short, as the team falls to Dodge City in the title game in Hays.

Coffeyville was playing down multiple rotation players, and struggled to contain the forward duo of Mia Jordan and Shorna Preston. The Ravens trailed by 19 at the half and trailed by double digits for a majority of the contest.

Head Coach Tony Turner says the Conquistadors are a great team that posed a tough test.

Despite being shorthanded and down 20 points, the Ravens continued to battle in the second half, outscoring Dodge City in the fourth quarter. Turner says he's proud of the way the team competed and battled.

Coffeyville was not one of the teams to receive an at-large bid to the national tournament, and Turner's sixth season as head coach ends with a 26-6 record and Region runner-up.

Chiefs Resign Pair of Players

The Kansas City Chiefs didn't waste any team at the start of free agency, agreeing to terms with a pair of players that suited up for the team last season.

Wide receiver Hollywood Brown agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $11 million. Brown played five total games with the Chiefs after a preseason shoulder injury. WHIO Sports Reporter Parker Testa says Brown provides strong inusrance for the KC offense.

The team also agreed to a new three-year deal with linebacker Nick Bolton, worth $45 million total. Bolton has been a fringe Pro Bowl talent in his time with the Chiefs, but Testa says it doesn't solve all of the problems on defense.

The franchise's biggest concern remains on the offensive line, particularly at left tackle. Testa says he believes the team could look in multiple places.

Free agency signings in the NFL become official later this week, as organizations are currently in the legal tampering period.

The boys in blue continue to play games in Arizona until March 25th, and open the regular season against the Cleveland Guardians on March 27th.

The first round of Sub-State was everything you could ask for in a playoff game. Holton took a 15-11 after the first quarter, but the Nado answered right back taking a 29-28 lead into halftime.

The Wildcats used great shooting from beyond the arc to keep themselves in the game shooting 6/13 in the first half. That shooting would continue into the third quarter as Holton would outscore Coffeyville 15-8 to take a 43-37 lead. The Nado caught fire to start the fourth quarter with Jake Horner and Jaxon Hershey hitting back to back to back threes as Coffeyville took a 46-45 lead. The Nado outscored Holton 18-12 in the fourth quarter and forced overtime tied at 55.

After a back-and-forth start to OT, a Horner layup with the game tied at 60 would give Coffeyville the go-ahead bucket. Horner would sink a free throw to put the Nado up four and then after a miss on his second free throw KK Austin would seal the Sub-State Championship birth with a steal.

Coffeyville is back in action tomorrow taking on Baldwin on the road with a State Tournament birth on the line. Tip-off is at 7:00pm on Sonshine 98.9 KQQF.

Chiefs Trade Offensive Lineman to Chicago

One of the staples of the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line over the past five years has been traded.

Two-time All-Pro guard Joe Thuney has been traded to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Former NFL linebacker Bart Scott says Kansas City always has a vision when making moves like this.

Thuney was recently selected as the Chiefs' MVP last season, being praised for his unselfishness in moving to left tackle to help the team. NFL Analyst Louis Riddick says he thinks Thuney is still capable of being an elite lineman.

The guard has played in nine NFL seasons between New England and Kansas City, only missing two career games. Thuney also has the highest pass block win rate in the NFL over the past two seasons.

Thuney is due $16 million this season, the final of a five-year contract he signed in 2021. Kansas City franchise tagged guard Trey Smith earlier this week, and will begin negotiating a long-term contract extension.
