The Region VI Semifinals get underway today in Hays, with both the Red Raven women and men in action later this evening.
The Lady Ravens match up with No. 2 seed Hutchinson, looking to advance to the Region championship game tomorrow. Head Coach Tony Turner says the team will be focused on slowing down the experienced guards of the Dragons.
Coffeyville and Hutchinson split the regular season series, with each team winning on their home court. Turner says tonight's game will come down to which team makes fewer mistakes.
On the men's side, Coffeyville will match up with rival Barton for a spot in the championship game. The two teams saw each other nine days ago at Nellis Hall, with the Red Ravens winning a thriller 89-85. Head Coach Jay Herkelman says this battle will come down to toughness.
Both teams feature all-league caliber stars, with Dre Kindell and Brent Moss leading the Cougars, and Brian Griffith, Justin Taylor, and Rashid Kuta for the Ravens. Herkelman says big time players must play big when the season is on the line.
Coverage of tonight's semifinal games begin at 5:00 p.m. CT on US 98. The Lady Ravens will tip off at 5:30, with the men to follow at 7:30.
