The Caney Valley Bullpups move on in Sub State playoffs with a 56-39 victory last night over Iola.
The Pups jumped out to an 18-7 lead after the 1st quarter, but Iola closed the gap with a 12-7 2nd quarter. Caney led 25-19 at the half.
The pivotal point of the game was the 3rd quarter. Layne Denny scored ten of his game high 17 points in the 3rd, as Caney pulled away with a 21-7 quarter en route to their 18th win on the season. Colt Hightower had 12 and Peyton Darden added 11 for the Bullpups, who will face Burlington Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Columbus High School. Burlington has a 19-3 record after a 60-53 win over Anderson County.
The winner of the Caney / Burlington game will travel to Hutchinson next week to the Class 3A state tournament.
