The dream of a perfect season comes to an end, as the Kansas City Royals fall in extra innings on Opening Day.
Kansas City jumped out to an early lead, thanks to a third inning three-run home run from Vinnie Pasquantino.
Cleveland kept the pressure on, scoring one run in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth to take the lead. Rookie Kyle Manzardo had three hits and four runs batted in, including a home run and double.
The Royals would tie the game in the bottom of the ninth on a Michael Massey sacrifice fly, but a three-run 10th inning for the Guardians proved fatal in a 7-4 win for Cleveland.
Royals Manager Matt Quatraro says the Guardians executed better down the stretch.
Kansas City will continue the series tomorrow afternoon, sending Seth Lugo to the mound, before wrapping up the series on Sunday afternoon.
