A former Independence Community College football coach and star of the Netflix series Last Chance U is suing the platform for $30 million.
Jason Brown has filed a lawsuit against Netflix, seeking $10 million in lost income, $10 million for reputational damage, and $10 million for emotional distress. Brown joins players from East Mississippi State, who were featured in the first two seasons of the show, and also filed a lawsuit a month ago.
Brown says he is entitled to compensation for the role he played in the show's success.
Last Chance U aired from 2016-2020 and showcased the lives and football careers of junior college players across the country. Independence was the featured school in both Season 3 and Season 4, which aired in 2018 and 2019.
Brown resigned at ICC in February of 2019 after offensive text messages he sent to a former athlete were made public.
