Royals Drop Opening Series to Guardians

The Kansas City Royals came up short in the first rubber match of the 2025 season, dropping the series finale to the Cleveland Guardians 6-2 at Kauffman Stadium.

Michael Wacha struggled with command in his first start of the season, walking four batters in four innings of work. Manager Matt Quatraro says Wacha was laboring on the mound.

Hunter Renfroe had a run-scoring double for KC, while Bobby Witt Jr drove in the other Royals run. Kyle Manzardo of Cleveland hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, his second blast of the weekend.

Quatraro says the weekend still had some bright spots, despite the losses.

Kansas City goes on the road for the first time this season to battle the Milwaukee Brewers. The opener can be heard this afternoon beginning at 12:30 p.m. CT on Sonshine 98.9 KQQF.
