The Royals prepare to host one of the most important series of the season thus far, welcoming the first place Detroit Tigers to town for three games.

Detroit currently paces the American League with a 37-20 record, and lead the AL Central Division by six games entering the weekend. Kansas City is 30-27 and a half game back of the final Wild Card spot.

Both teams flex two of the better starting rotations in the sport, with the Royals getting Seth Lugo back from injury tonight, before Michael Wacha tomorrow, and Kris Bubic on Sunday. Detroit will counter with former first overall pick Casey Mize tonight, reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal tomorrow, and Keider Montero on Sunday.

An Independence High School golfer is the 4A state champion.

Junior Ethan Small of IHS won the 4A State Golf Championship by one stroke, after posting a -2 score through the two day competition.

Small was able to hold off junior Regan Kueker of Wamego for the title, with Griffin Bloemker of Bishop Miege in third, Breckin Miller of Wamego in fourth, and Kaden Tyner of Wamego in fifth.

Wamego won the team championship with a final score of 309, with Topeka Hayden second, and Bishop Miege third. IHS finished seventh with a score of 333.

Small is a two-time SEK league champion, and becomes the first Bulldog state champion since Tyler Sullivan in 2003.

A redshirt freshman on the Baylor football team has died following a shooting earlier this week.

Defensive lineman Alex Foster died early Wednesday after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in a car, while in his hometown of Greenville, Mississippi.

Police responded to reports of shots fired just after midnight on May 28th in the 1800 block of East Alexander Street, and discovered Foster upon arrival, where he later passed away at Delta Health Center.

Foster was a four-star recruit out of St. Joseph High School in Mississippi, and was one of the highest rated recruits in Baylor's 2024 class. Baylor Head Coach Dave Aranda released a statement on social media, stating "Alex was a beloved member of our Baylor family, and we are devastated by this loss. In his time at Baylor he made a long-lasting impact on all of us in the program."

Information regarding the identity of the shooter or details leading up to the shooting are unknown at this time.

Bartlesville High School football officially turns the page to the 2025 season tonight, playing in the annual spring game at Custer Stadium.

BHS has been having organized team workouts for the past two weeks, and begin a team camp next week. For the first time this season, incoming freshmen can practice with the high school team, creating a roster of about 70 players this spring.

Bartlesville was a very young team a season ago, utilizing underclassmen in a variety of spots. Head Coach Harry Wright says he thinks that experience will help those players this time around.

BHS went 3-7 last year, and dropped a close first round playoff game to Putnam City. Wright says a focus has been on building overall team depth.

Tonight's spring game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. from Custer Stadium. There will be a youth flag football game beforehand as well.

Lance Leipold and the Kansas Jayhawks football program continue to piece together one of the strongest recruiting classes in the 2026 class, landing a four-star running back from Michigan.

Kory Amachree chose the Jayhawks over Michigan State, Indiana, Duke, Pittsburgh, and Harvard. He is from Haslett, Michigan, just minutes from East Lansing, and was heavily projected to go to MSU for months.

Amachree becomes the 16th player in the class of 2026, and is among the top running back recuits in the nation. He is the No. 6 overall player in Michigan, the No. 26 running back in the country, and the No. 365 overall player in the country.

It is also a massive land for KU, due to Amachree's father being a MSU football alum, meaning Leipold was able to poach a Spartan legacy away from the program.

For the second time since the franchise moved to Oklahoma City, and the first time since 2012, the Thunder are heading to the NBA Finals after winning the Western Conference Championship.

OKC defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games, after defeating the Memphis Grizzlies and Denver Nuggets in the first two rounds.

The Thunder ran away from Minnesota in a 124-94 closeout win in Game 5. The team scored 39 points in the second quarter, including a three from All-Star Jalen Williams.

Shai Gilegous-Alexander was named Western Conference Finals MVP, just days after winning league MVP for the season. He is looking to become the first player in NBA history to win MVP, conference finals MVP, and Finals MVP in the same year. He says he owes it all to the support he gets.

OKC will face the winner of the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks in the Finals, which begin a week from tonight on June 5th in Oklahoma City.

Kansas Jayhawk basketball has had no problem recruiting elite high school talent in the Bill Self era, and the Jayhawks are set to receive another visit from a top-ranked national recruit.

Five-star guard Ikenna Alozie revealed he intends to take an official visit to Lawrence this summer, and has narrowed his top school choices down to seven. KU is firmly in contention for the star, along with Houston, Arizona, Kentucky, Gonzaga, Louisville, and Washington.

The 6-foot-2 point guard has already made trips to Arizona and Washington, and is also planning visits to the other five finalist schools. The New Jersey native is the No. 9 overall player in the Class of 2026, and the highest ranked point guard in the country.

Alozie plays at Dream City Christian School in Glendale, Arizona, and has quick speed, along with scoring and playmaking ability that are mature beyond his age. There is no timetable for the five-star to make his official decision.

Nick Dobler and the Red Ravens have added a transfer to the offensive line room, landing a recruit from the Division 1 FCS level.

Offensive tackle Sebastian Espizona has committed to Coffeyville, after spending the past two seasons at Youngstown State University. Espinoza is a 6-foot-7 and 300 pound tackle, and is from Mount Washington, Kentucky.

He appeared in one game in his redshirt freshman season in 2024, and did not play in the 2023 season. He was a third-team All-Kentucky Class 6A selection, and was the 6A state champion at Bullitt East, going 14-1 in his senior season.

The Red Ravens are looking to replace numerous all-conference players on the offensive line, including Khalil Walker, Devon Waller, and Casey Jean-Baptiste.

Pittsburg State University has their new baseball coach, and are looking to the Jayhawk conference for their next leader.

PSU has hired Brock Buckingham as their next head baseball coach, becoming the sixth head coach in the 46-year history of the program. He will replace Bob Fornelli, who retired following seven seasons with the Gorillas, and 29 total seasons in college baseball, winning 1,120 career games.

Buckingham comes to Pittsburg from Cowley College in the Jayhawk conference, where he has served as an assistant coach for 17 seasons, from 2005-06, and 2011-25. He also spent the past six seasons as associate head coach under head coach Darren Burroughs.

In his time at Cowley, the Tigers won 720 games, nine KJCCC East Division titles, and five trips to the JUCO World Series. The Tigers finished third in the nation in 2017, and were national runner-ups in 2022.

Kansas State men's basketball has their big transfer portal addition, landing a 5-star recruit from Memphis.

Guard PJ Haggerty has chosen the Wildcats over NC State, and becomes the highest rated transfer in the history of Wildcat basketball. Haggerty is a 6-foot-3 guard from Crosby, Texas, and was the No. 2 rated player in the transfer portal.

GoPowercat.com's Tim Fitzgerald says Haggerty makes the team's ceiling significantly higher.

Haggerty was a second-team All-American last season at Memphis, averaging 21 points, five rebounds, and four assista per game, also winning American Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He is not a stranger to the four state area either, spending his redshirt freshman season at Tulsa.

Haggerty is expected to start alongside former Bartlesville High School star David Castillo in the KSU backcourt next season.

Jerome Tang has brought in a former mid-major head coach with plenty of D1 success, to be the new Associate Head Coach with the Kansas State Wildcats.

Matthew Driscoll resigned following 16 years as the head coach at North Florida University, and will become the top assistant coach for KSU effective immediately. He says the recent landscape changes in college basketball made this an enticing opportunity.

Driscoll and Tang have known each other for more than two decades, including six years on staff together at Baylor under Scott Drew. Driscoll says Tang is one of the best coaches in the sport.

North Florida had one of the country's best offenses, winning three conference championships, and consistently scoring over 80 points per game. Driscoll says he'll be focusing on improving the tempo of the Wildcat offense.

The Ospreys finished last season 15-17, and had lost five different players to Power 5 schools in the transfer portal.

Both Kansas and Kansas State baseball have qualified for the NCAA tournament, and now know their path to make it out of the Regional round.

The Jayhawks finished the regular season 43-15, with a 20-10 conference record. They will be the No. 2 seed in the Fayetteville Regional, hosted by the nation's No. 3 team in Arkansas, along with Creighton and North Dakota State.

KSU finished the regular season 31-24 with a 17-13 league mark, and will be the No. 3 seed in the Austin Regional. The nation's No. 2 team, Texas, hosts the regional, with Houston Christian and the University of Texas at San Antonio also a part.

KU will open with Creighton on Friday night at 7 p.m., while the Wildcats open with UTSA on Friday night at 6.

The Royals' top prospect continues to take the baseball world by storm, homering in four consecutive games.

Jac Caglianone hit a pair of homers in a win over Salt Lake on Sunday, his fourth straight game with a long ball. The first baseman has spent six games at the Triple-A level, and is hitting .346 with five homers and 10 runs batted in.

In 44 games total this season, Caglianone is mashing .346 with 14 home runs and 53 runs batted in.

The top prospect turned 22 in February, and is now a Top 10 prospect in all of baseball, widely considered to make his Royals debut at some point this summer.

A Coffeyville Community College baseball commit tied a Kansas record over the weekend, capping off an incredible senior season.

Aydin Ruiz of Spearville High School has tied a state record for single season earned run average, finishing the season with a 0.00 ERA, which ties three other pitcheers in state history.

Ruiz is a left-handed pitcher and threw 45.2 innings this season, striking out 105 batters and only walking 16. He finished the season with an 8-2 record, and allowed just 11 total hits, with hitters slashing just .075 against the lefty.

Ruiz is 5-foot-10 and throws a fastball in the low 80s, with a curveball and changeup to accompany it. He will join Jake Martin's pitching staff in the fall.

Coffeyville Community College Athletics will be hosting the annual Golf Classic later this summer.

The event will take place on Saturday July 26th at the Coffeyville Country Club. CCC Athletic Director Bryce Saia says this is an opportunity for athletics and community to team up.

The classic is played in a team scramble style format. Saia says this makes it an event that any person can participate in.

Red Raven athletics had a historic year, winning a conference championship in football, having deep postseason runs in basketball and baseball, and taking major strides forward in volleyball and softball. Saia says this event gives the program resources to keep building.

A pair of Red Raven baseball players were named to the 2025 All-NJCAA Region 6 Team.

The All-Region teams are made up of players voted by coaches from the East and West divisions, and are made of entirely of All-KJCCC conference players.

Outfielder Eric Bacon was named first-team All-Region, along with Johnson County's Bo Shinkle and KCK's Marcus Dierks. Bacon hit .385 in his sophomore season, leading the team with seven home runs, and ranking Top 5 in the conference with 29 stolen bases.

Sophomore pitcher Jackson Waggoner was named to the second-team All-Region, after posting a 6-2 season with 48 strikeouts in 67 innings pitched. Waggoner ranked third in the conference in ERA entering the Plains District Tournament.

Bacon also received a Gold Glove for his play in center field, where he also made Sportscenter's Top 10 plays for an outstanding catch against Cloud County.

Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez has won a World Series, Clemente Award, and numerous gold gloves and silver slugger awards, and the captain has added yet another milestone to the resume.

Perez homered for the first time in over a month in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the San Francisco Giants. It is the 276th home run in Salvy's career, placing him fifth all-time among catchers in the American League.

Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk holds the record at 376 home runs, with Yogi Berra second at 358, Lance Parrish third with 289, and Ivan Rodriguez fourth with 281. Perez says it's an honor to be inlcuded with some of the all-time greats.

With his current career pace, the 35-year old is projected to pass both Rodriguez and Parrish on the list, and could challenge George Brett's Royals record of 317 career home runs.

Pawhuska High School football is wrapping up spring practices this week, and shifting focus to summer workouts in preparation of the 2025 season.

The Huskies are looking to build off a very strong 9-4 season a year ago, but feature plenty of new faces on the offensive side of the ball, including a new signal caller. Kane Forman will be a senior next season and has plenty of experience on the field, but that experience came playing for 8-man Copan, where he transferred from earlier this year.

Pawhuska Head Coach Matt Hennesy says Forman is learning every day.

The Huskies will have a two-day team camp next week, and hosting a passing league each week throughout the duration of the summer. Hennesy says this will be another resource for Forman to get up to speed.

Joining Forman as incoming transfers are Copan lineman Jackson White, and Bartlesville wide receiver Jarek Edwards.

A trio of Pittsburg State University athletes have been named All-Americans following the spring season.

On the baseball field, both junior first baseman Dagen Brewer and graduate student pitcher Kolby Dougan were named second-team All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. They become the 13th and 14th players in program history to be named an All-American.

Brewer set the program record for home runs in the regular season with 23, and drove in 75 total runs. Dougan is 8-0 on the mound this season, holding a 2.42 ERA in 67 innings of work.

Additionally, junior shorstop Heather Arnett of the PSU softball team was named an All-American, and becomes just the second player in program history to be named a two-time All-American. Arnett hit .495 this season, with 40 stolen bases, and ranked first in Division 2 in batting average.

Kansas men's basketball is bringing back a legend of the program to join Bill Self on the coaching staff.

Former star player and two-time NBA head coach Jacque Vaughn will be an assistant coach for the Jayhawks, returning to Lawrence after more than 25 years.

Vaughn played at KU from 1993-97, winning Big Eight Player of the Year in 1996 and being named second-team All-American in both 1996 and 1997. His jersey was retired in 2002 and he is third in school history in assists.

Vaughn spent 12 seasons in the NBA after being a first round pick in 1997, winning the 2007 NBA title with the San Antonio Spurs. He was the head coach of the Orlando Magic from 2012-15, and the Brooklyn Nets from 2022-24.

He replaces longtime assistant Norm Roberts, who retired earlier this offseason.

Field Kindley High School is hosting a basketball camp next week. New Lady Nado Head Coach Will Owens says it will start the day after Memorial Day.

The camp times are high school girls, 7:30am to 9:00am, third through fifth grade, 9:00am to 10:30am, sixth grade through eighth grade, 10:30am to 12:00pm, and high school boys 12:00pm to 2:00pm. A Field Kindley High School football player signs with Coffeyville Community College.

Nado Senior KeShawn Hayes, who was originally committed to Independence Community College, says he switched to CCC because of the opportunity to play at home. Hayes will join family member and Nado teammate Aaron Tunstall at CCC. He says the two have been playing sports together for as long as he can remember.  

Hayes played wide receiver and cornerback for the Nado, but he says he plans to play more slot receiver for the Red Ravens.  

Kansas State basketball has landed another player in the transfer portal, looking to the junior college ranks to land a center.

Stephen Osei has committed to the Wildcats from Casper College, and is the 10th player on roster for the 2025-26 season.

Originally from Canada, Osei played for the FIBA U17 and U16 teams in 2022, and averaged 11 points and six rebounds per game in his freshman year at Casper, shooting 63 percent from the floor. Osei is currently injured and expected to redshirt the upcoming season, but will still have four seasons of eligibility remaining.

The center played with new KSU guard Abdi Bashir's brother Adbdul while at Casper, and joins Bashir, Akron transfer Nate Johnson, Serbian guard Andrej Kostic, UNC-Wilmington transfer Khamari McGriff, and high school recruit Exavier Wilson as the offseason additions for Jerome Tang.

Two-time All-Pro guard and former Kansas City Chief Joe Thuney has signed a new extension, months after being traded to the Chicago Bears.

The new deal is a three-year extension worth $51 million total, and $33.5 million guaranteed at signing.

Thuney was traded to Chicago in March by the Chiefs, in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round draft pick. He was entering the final year of a five-year deal he signed with the Chiefs in 2021.

Thuney was selected as the Chiefs' MVP last season by his teammates, receiving the Derrick Thomas Award in recognition of his unselfishness in moving to left tackle at the end of the season.

The guard has missed just two games in his nine year NFL career, and has the highest pass block win rate in the league over the past two seasons at 97.8%. He has been named a first-team All-Pro each of the past two years.

Numerous area baseball and softball teams have punched their ticket to the state tournament, after clinching region championships yesterday.

Cedar Vale-Dexter won the 1A Sedan Regional in convincing fashion, defeating West Elk 15-1, and improving to a dominant 25-1 on the season. The Patriots were the No. 6 seed in the bracket, and have their season end at 8-17.

Fort Scott softball is heading to state after a 6-4 win over Topeka Hayden to win 4A East Region #3, which was held at Fort Scott Community College. The Lady Tigers were led by Allie Brown, who hit .714 during regionals with a walk and home run.

On the baseball field, the Columbus Titans are champions of the 3A Riverton Regional, defeating Frontenac 6-2 in the title game. The Titans had to defeat No.5 seed Galena, top seed Caney, and No. 3 seed Frontenac to win the championship.

Regional playoff action continues through the rest of the week across the state.

A high school football team in the Southeast Kansas League has a new interim head football coach.

Labette County has named Bradley Argabright as the program's new head coach, on an interim basis for the time being. Argabright currently serves as a physical education teacher at LCHS, and will enter his tenth year coaching in the district.

Argabright has had six years as head boys basketball coach, four years as head boys track coach, and nine years as an assistant football coach. He also was a member of the 2011 National Championship football team at Pittsburg State University, where he played both wide receiver and guard on the basketball team.

Argabright is replacing Sean Price, who had his contract terminated earlier this month, following allegations from numerous parents outlining inappropriate comments Price made about girls at the high school.

The top prospect in the Kansas City Royals organization is now one step away from making his highly anticipated Major League debut.

Jac Caglianone was promoted from Double-A Northwest Arkansas, to Triple-A Omaha, following just 38 games at the Double-A level, where he hit .322 with nine home runs and 43 runs batted in.

Caglinaone was the sixth overall pick in last year's draft out of the University of Florida, and has seen time at both first base and the corner outfield spots this season. He is 22 years old and is expected to make his Storm Chaser debut tonight.

Kansas City has one of the worst offenses in baseball when it comes to power, ranking last in home runs and 27th in runs scored. Caglianone is expected by many to make his Royals debut later this season.

Area high school baseball teams are preparing for the start of the Regional playoffs.

At 5A, the Pittsburg Purple Dragons are the No. 12 seed and take on KC Piper tomorrow afternoon.

Fort Scott is the No. 2 overall seed in 4A East, and will open with Field Kindley tomorrow. Chanute takes on Paola, and Independence battles Baldwin today in other 4A action.

In 3A, Neodesha looks to continue momentum after beating rival Fredonia, and take on Burlington this afternoon. Caney is the top seed in the Riverton region, and take on Columbus today looking to advance to the championship.

Numerous area high school softball teams begin their Regional tournament journeys today.

Pittsburg High School is the top seed in the 5A East Regional, and battles KC-Washington tonight.

At the 4A level, Fort Scott is the No. 3 seed and takes on No. 14 seed Labette County, while Chanute takes on Holton, Parsons battles top seed Eudora, and Independence takes on Wamego. The Chanute and Parsons games are tomorrow.

Additionally, Caney is the No. 4 seed in 3A and takes on Galena in the Frontenac Regional. Fredonia also takes the field today against Jayhawk Linn. 

Pittsburg State Gorilla baseball reached new program heights over the weekend, advancing to NCAA-II Super Regionals for the first time in school history.

PSU scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break an 8-8 tie, and win a thriller over Minnesota State University. The Gorillas will now advance to meet No. 3 Central Missouri in a best-of-three series beginning Thursday.

Former Johnson County star Dagen Brewer hit a two-run home run, his 23rd of the season, in a seven-run second inning. Brewer is hitting .385 on the season with 24 home runs and 78 runs batted in.

Plenty of other KJCCC faces found their way to Pittsburg, with former Butler pitcher Tanner Leslie, former Barton infielder Jace Stewart, former Cowley pitcher Boston Dowd, and former Red Raven Ryan Leiker all on the roster. Current Red Ravens Eric Bacon and Landin Midgett are also committed to PSU.

The Parsons Vikings tennis team finishes the season at the top of the mountain, winning a 4A State Championship.

The team will split the team title with Winfield, and received a community welcome back to Parsons on Saturday night, with signs and cheers in the PHS parking lot.

The state champion Viking team consists of Wyatt Shultz, Conner Barcus, Cole Kennett, Davion Holman, Mason Morris, and Tanner Nolting.

The Kansas City Royals found a way to end a tough home stand with a victory, edging the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 in the series finale.

Michael Wacha threw five innings of one-run ball, while Maikel Garcia and Dairon Blanco were responsible for driving in the team's two runs.

The Royals now sit in a tie for third place in a very competitive American League Central division, with the Twins, Guardians, and Royals all within a half game of each other. Detroit leads the division with a record of 31-16.

Kansas City heads to the West Coast for a road trip, taking on the San Francisco Giants in a three-game series. Kris Bubic gets the ball against Robbie Ray of San Francisco, with coverage beginning at 8 p.m. CT tonight on the Mighty 690 KGGF.

Red Raven men's basketball is saying goodbye to another player, with Trent Ruth committing to Division 1 Stonehill University following his freshman season.

Ruth was second-team All-KJCCC in his lone season in Coffeyville, and joins a Stonehill program that recently made the jump to D1 and is postseason eligible for the first time. Ruth says it was an opportunity he couldn't turn down.

The guard earned trust from Head Coach Jay Herkelman early in his career, emerging as one of the team's top scorers and defenders, and hitting a clutch shot to beat Barton on sophomore night. Ruth says his relationship with Herkelman is strong.

Ruth also formed close relationships with fellow guards Justin Taylor and Brian Griffith, with the trio earning the nickname "Money Team", and all three being all-conference selections. Ruth says Taylor and Griffith are two of his best friends.

Stonehill went 15-17 last season, and will look for their first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history next season.

Rivalry Weekend commences across Major League Baseball beginning tonight, and the Kansas City Royals will host the St. Louis Cardinals at Kauffman Stadium in the Battle of Missouri.

Both teams are sitting in playoff position thus far in the 2025 season, with Kansas City 25-20 and third place in the AL Central, and the Cardinals 24-20 and second place in the NL Central.

Cole Ragans will be the starter for the series opener, and has struck out 19 hitters in his last 10 innings pitched. He will be opposed by Andre Pallante, who has a 4.36 ERA, and features a power sinker.

One of the best seasons in Red Raven baseball history was rewarded nicely by the Jayhawk Conference, with 10 Raven players named all-conference, and Head Coach Jake Martin receiving KJCCC East Co-Coach of the Year.

Martin shares the award with Eric Horner of Johnson County, after Martin led the Ravens to a 35-win season and a top-four finish in the East Division for the first time in a decade. The Ravens went 22-7 at home this season, and hosted and won a playoff series for the first time since 2015.

Sophomore outfielder Eric Bacon and sophomore pitcher Jackson Waggoner were both named first team all-conference for their seasons. Bacon hit .380 with 46 RBIs and 29 stolen bases, while Waggoner had a 2.68 ERA in conference games, ranking third best in the KJCCC.

Eight other Ravens were named Honorable Mention All-KJCCC; shortstop Nathon Cruz, catcher Ethan Gillespie, third baseman Cooper Jarnigan, second baseman Landin Midgett, first baseman Wyatt Pace, closer Caleb Peek, starting pitcher Easton Renn, and outfielder Colton Reudy.

A Parsons pitcher has broken a school record before his senior season even starts.

Junior Mikey Ramsey has set a new Vikings school record for career strikeouts, picking up his 146th career punchout last night. Ramsey passes the previous record of 145, which was held by Travis Martinez, who played for Parsons from 1992-95.

Ramsey is one of the hardest throwers in the state of Kansas, with his fastball reaching 90-93 miles per hour. He is a fringe Top 300 prospect in the nation, and will participate in the Perfect Game National Showcase in Phoenix, Arizona in July.

Parsons will look to go on a postseason run when they open Regionals on May 19th.

The NFL will be voting next week on a potential avenue to allow players to participate in the flag football even at the 2028 Summer Olympics.

According to the resolution, "participation by NFL players in flag football during the 2028 Olympics will support growth and advance several league interests, including increasing fan and public interest in flag football, expanding global reach of the NFL, and providing greater opportunities for fan engagement and league partners."

The resolution establishes certain rules, such as one player per team participating in games, purchase of league-wide insurance policies for injury protection, and medical staffs and field surfaces that comply with NFL standards.

Owners will meet Tuesday and Wednesday in Minnesota to consider the resolution, with Commissioner Roger Goodell, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, and other league officials showing consistent support in the motion.

The 2025 NFL schedule has been released, and with it, the Kansas City Chiefs path to the postseason is revealed.

Kansas City will open the 2025 campaign on a Friday night in Sao Paulo, Brazil, against the division rival Los Angeles Chargers. There will be a Super Bowl rematch with the Philadelphia Eagles on September 14th in Week 2.

Primetime games for the Chiefs are September 21st against the New York Giants, October 6th against the Jacksonville Jaguars, October 12th vs the Detroit Lions, October 27th with the Washington Commanders, and the Houston Texans on December 7th.

The team will also play the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, and the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day. A full look at the 2025 Chiefs schedule can be found HERE.

The season is on the line for Red Raven baseball this afternoon, as the team battles Cloud County in an elimination game.

Both teams are 1-1 in the double elimination portion of the tournament, with Cloud County falling to KCK before beating Fort Scott, and Coffeyville defeating Barton before losing to Cowley. CCC and Cloud did not face each other during the regular season.

Easton Renn is the projected starting pitcher for the Red Ravens, who went 7-1 with a 4.09 ERA in 50.2 inning pitched during the regular season. The Thunderbirds will be utilitizing a bullpen game, with the majority of relievers available to pitch today.

Major League Baseball's hit king, Pete Rose, as well as "Shoeless" Joe Jackson, and others have been removed from the permanently ineligible list by commissioner Rob Manfred.

Both Rose and Jackson are now eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, after being labeled for decades as two of the disgraced figures of the game for illegal gambling.

Manfred's decision ends the ban that Rose accepted in 1989 from then-commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti, following an investigation that determined the 17-time All-Star had bet on games while managing the Cincinnati Reds. Jackson and seven other White Sox players were banned in 1921 by baseball's first commissioner, Kenesaw Mountain Landis, for fixing the 1919 World Series in the infamous "Black Sox" scandal.

Jackson ranks fourth in MLB history with a .356 batting average, while Rose still holds the career records for hits, games played, at-bats, singles, and outs.

Rose passed away in September at the age of 83, while Jackson passed in 1951. Both players will now be considered by the Historical Overview Committee for the Hall of Fame, when they next meet in December of 2027.

Red Raven baseball keeps on rolling, upsetting No. 1 seed Barton 11-2, and advancing to the Region VI Semifinals.

Coffeyville scored in each of the first seven innings, and finished the afternon with 10 total team hits. The team also played sound defense behind starting pitcher Cross Dowd, including turning a big double play to end a Barton rally in the fifth.

Not normally known for home run power, the Red Ravens hit four homers on the day, including a sixth inning blast from first baseman Wyatt Pace. Ethan Gillespie, Shawn Bareno, and Nathon Cruz also left the ballpark.

Coffeyville advances to face the Cowley Tigers tonight in semifinal action, with Jackson Waggoner the projected starter. First pitch is at 7 p.m. CT, and Coffeyville went 1-3 against Cowley this season.

The Kansas Jayhawks are looking to add talent to the roster, and are targeting the son of a former NFL star.

Following a very successful 2026 recruiting class for Lance Leipold and his staff, a class that is ranked the eighth best in the nation by 24/7 Sports, KU is shifting focus to the 2027 class.

The Jayhawks have offered wide receiver Donovan McNabb Jr, who plays at Brophy Prep in Arizona. McNabb Jr is the son of former six-time Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb.

McNabb Jr is slightly undersized entering his junior season, standing just 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds, but has plenty of speed and athleticism. The receiver has also received interest from Arizona, Iowa State, and Minnesota.

It is also expected that Syracuse will target McNabb Jr, which is where his father played and starred in 1998.

The quest for a Region Championship for Red Raven baseball continues this afternoon, with the team battling the Barton Cougars in Salina.

Coffeyville enters the matchup 34-18 on the season, and swept the Butler Grizzlies in the opening series. Barton is the top overall seed at 42-11, and swept Neosho County in the opening series. CCC and Barton went 1-1 in two games against each other this season.

Cross Dowd gets the ball for the Red Ravens, and is coming off of his best start of the season, pitching seven innings of one run ball with a career high 11 strikeouts against Butler. Sophomore Anthony Treto is the projected starter for the Cougars, who has a 4.97 ERA in 12 games this season, but pitched seven shutout innings in his last start.

The winner of today's contest will face the winner of Cowley and Hutchinson tomorrow, while the loser will look to keep their season alive in an elimination game.

A Kansas City Chiefs superfan will be spending more than 30 years behind bars after a recent sentencing.

Xaviar Babudar, also known as ChiefsAholic, wsa sentenced to 32 years in prison in an Oklahoma courtroom yesterday, more than two years after authorities caught him in the state fleeing from a local bank robbery.

Babudar is already serving a 17.5 year federal sentence for robbing banks in seven states between 2022 and 2023. The Tulsa County district attorney's office were looking to add more time to the sentence, and the additional 14.5 years will be served concurrent in an Oklahoma penitentiary after the federal term ends.

In March, Babudar pleaded guilty to robbery with a firearm, assault while masked or disguised, and removing an electronic monitoring device in connection with a December 16, 2022 armed robbery of the Tulsa Teachers Credit Union.

Prior to the arrest, Babudar was a popular figure in Chiefs Kingdom, dressing in a gray wolf suit and participating in pregame festivities and taking pictures with fans.

A pair of Chanute athletes that have been stars on the field have been recognized as the Taco John's Athletes of the Month.

Junior Jaron Powers has been one of the best distance runners in Southeast Kansas, being named All-SEK in cross country and now making an impact on the track. Powers set the school record in the 3200m and is one of the leaders of the track team for the Blue Comets.

Marie Wright is a key piece to the Chanute girls soccer program, scoring five goals and leading the Blue Comets to their first win in program history, and three total wins this season.

Red Raven softball wraps up the season with three players being named to the KJCCC All-League teams.

Sophomore Jadyn Roberts, of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, was named Honorable Mention all-league after hitting .379 with three doubles and two triples, serving as the primary second baseman.

Freshman Katelynn Siess, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, was also named Honorable Mention after hitting .343 with five doubles as the Raven shortstop, and also pitching 82 innings with a 5.59 ERA and 66 strikeouts.

Freshman Teagan Titus of South Coffeyville, and Field Kindley High School, was the final Raven named Honorable Mention, hitting .306 with a double and triple while playing the outfield.

The Ravens finished the season 10-30, with a 5-17 conference record, and finished 10th in the KJCCC under first year coach Ashton Friend.

Sedan got a big time pitching performance over the weekend, earning a 3-2 win over Cedarvale/Dexter in the South Central Border League championship game.

Senior Jackson Shipley of the Blue Devils went the full seven innings, allowing just four hits and striking out seven hitters, with no earned runs allowed. The dominant performance allowed the Blue Devils to beat the Spartans for the first time this season.

Jackson and Sedan will now shift focus to the Cedarvale Regional, where they are the No. 2 seed and open with the winner of West Elk and Eureka on Friday. Cedarvale/Dexter is the top overall seed in the tournament, and could potentially match up with the Blue Devils again in the championship game, which would be the fourth matchup for the two schools this season.

A Royals veteran pitcher reached a major career milestone in his most recent outing.

Right-handed pitcher Michael Wacha reached 1,500 career innings pitched in the Major Leagues, after throwing seven shutout innings in a 2-1 win over the White Sox on Wednesday. Wacha becomes the 20th active pitcher in the MLB to reach the mark.

A 13-year veteran in the league, Wacha has a 3.27 ERA since becoming a Royal, and a 2.98 ERA through eight starts this season. Teammate Cole Ragans says Wacha is the ultimate professional on and off the field.

Kansas City is 15-2 in their last 17 games, and hold the second best rotation ERA in baseball, with a 3.02 team mark entering a series with the Boston Red Sox.

Another member of the Red Raven men's basketball team has made a decision, with guard Justin Taylor committing to the University of Tampa.

The Tampa Spartans are one of the most consistently successful schools at the Division 2 level, winning national titles in a variety of sports. Taylor says it was an immediate connection with the school.

Taylor transfered to Coffeyville after two seasons at High Point University, where he earned Honorable Mention All-KJCCC in his lone season in the conference. He says he owes a lot to Head Coach Jay Herkelman.

The point guard is the latest example of a player being able to stand out at the JUCO level, and find a role with a successful four-year program. Taylor says playing in JUCO made him a more well rounded player.

Taylor teams up with Tampa Head Coach Linc Darner, who was at High Point during Taylor's freshman season. The Spartans are looking to compete for a national title, after a 20-11 season last year.

The Red Ravens earn another massive home win, and sweep the Butler Grizzlies with an 8-3 win in Game 2, and advance to the Final Eight in Salina.

CCC scored first in the opening inning, with a two-out rally that ended with a Nathon Cruz infield single. Butler would score two in the third and one in the fifth to take the lead.

A five run sixth inning would shift momentum for Coffeyville, with Eric Bacon, Colton Reudy, Landin Midgett, and Cruz all delivering hits that scored runs.

Jackson Waggoner was sharp for the Ravens, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs on seven hits. Caleb Peek would get the final six outs after entering from the bullpen.

CCC is 34-18 on the season, and win a home playoff series for the first time in nine years. Coffeyville will take on top seed Barton, who the Ravens went 1-1 against this season. Game time is scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Salina.

A longtime assistant coach on Bill Self's staff is calling it a career.

Norm Roberts is retiring after 37 years as a coach, in which he served as a KU assistant since 2012, and also coached with Self at Oral Roberts, Tulsa, and Illinois.

Roberts is a member of the Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame, and served six seasons as the head coach at St. John's University from 2004-10, where he went 109-185. He says he will forever be a part of the Kansas family.

The Jayhawks will conduct a nationwide search for a new assistant coach.

The Red Ravens stepped up and played one of their best games of the season, featuring excellent pitching, clutch hitting, and sound defense in a 9-1 Game 1 win over Butler.

Cross Dowd was the story of the game, pitching seven innings and only allowing four hits and one run, with nine strikeouts. The sophomore right-hander struck out four of the final five batters he faced, and only allowed one hit after the second inning.

Both teams scored in the opening inning, before both starting pitchers settled in. The Red Ravens would plate three in the fifth, including a big two-run single by third baseman Cooper Jarnagin.

Butler would threaten in the seventh, putting two runners on with two outs, before Dowd would strike out the Grizzlies' top hitter Cooper Rasmussen to end the inning.

Zane Wilson entered the game out of the bullpen to get the final six outs for CCC, and lock down the 9-1 victory in Game 1.

The Ravens are one win away from advancing to Wichita for the double elimination portion of the tournament, and will look to close out the series tomorrow afternoon, with the game at 3 p.m. on US 98 and the Red Raven Sports Network. Projected starters are Jackson Waggoner for CCC and Whit Rhodes for Butler.

Pittsburg High School basketball will have a pair of new head coaches on the sidelines next season.

The girls program will be led by Tristan Gegg, who joins PHS after spending two seasons at Girard under Brad Herlocker. KOAM's John Dales says Gegg has plenty of ties to Southeast Kansas.

Leading the boys team will be Jesse Moss, who takes over following the first losing season for the Dragon boys in a decade. KSN 16's Ryan Bunnell says Moss brings an impressive resume to Pittsburg despite his young age.

The Pittsburg Girls finished 10-10 last season, and 12th place in the 5A East standings. The boys finished 9-11, and 11th in the 5A East standings.

An Independence High School golfer is the Southeast Kansas League champion for the second consecutive year.

Ethan Small claimed the individual title in back-to-back seasons, after posting a 74 over the weekend and winning the tournament by two strokes. The Bulldog golf team also won the team championship by nine strokes, with a final score of 323.

Pittsburg placed second in the team rankings, with Fort Scott third, Chanute fourth, and Labette County fifth.

MJ Lowe of Pittsburg came second in the individual standings, with Reece Roberts of Fort Scott third, Cam Mavers of Independence fourth, and Tanner White of Independence fifth.

A Eureka High School junior broke a record on the track that was more than seven decades old.

Peyton Hare ran a time of 22.27 seconds in the 200m at the El Dorado Invitational to break the school record set back in 1952.

Hare has been one of the best runners in the state in the event, with his most recent time placing him second fastest in 2A, just behind Aston Gratton of Pleasonton with a time of 22.22 seconds.

Peyton and the Tornados compete tomorrow in the Humboldt Invitational, before the Class 2A State meet later this month.

A pair of Independence Community College men's basketball stars who earned all-conference honors announced their commitments to Division 1 programs to continue their career.

Guard Chiante Tramble, a freshman out of Edmond, Oklahoma, will be continuing his career with the Southern Mississiippi Golden Eagles, in Conference USA. Tramble led the conference in scoring at 23.3 points per game, and had six games scoring at least 30, including a career high 41 in a game against Hutchinson, and was named all-conference first team.

Additionally, sophomore forward Chris Dockery, from Las Vegas, Nevada, will continue his career at the University of Missouri Kansas City, out of the Summit League. Dockery was second-team all-conference and averaged 16.9 points and seven rebounds per game, shooting 57% from the field.

The Pirates finished the season with a 12-19 record, and lost in overtime to Garden City in the opening round of the region tournament.

Coffeyville Community College Men's Track and Field is taking home hardware, being named the 2025 KJCCC East Outdoor Champions.

CCC scored 200.5 points to easily edge second place Cowley, who finished with 141 points. The Red Ravens also earned a Region VI trophy, finishing third overall in the region behind Hutchinson and Barton.

Red Raven Head Coach Robert Wood was voted the Region VI Men's Outdoor Coach of the Year, as well as the Region VI Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year. Assistant Coach Tre Lathan was voted Region VI Men's Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year.

The Ravens will next compete at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships, which begin next Thursday in Hutchinson.

The Red Raven baseball team will be hosting a playoff series for the first time in nearly a decade, battling rival Butler in a best-of-three series beginning on Wednesday.

Coffeyville is the No. 8 overall seed for the Plains District Tournament, after finishing fourth in the East standings. Butler is the No. 9 overall seed, and finished fifth in the West. Head Coach Jake Martin says it's exciting to be able to host a series.

CCC will pitch sophomores Cross Dowd and Jackson Waggoner in the first two games of the series, against projected starters Shane Holman and Whitley Rhodes of Butler, both of who are freshman. Martin says that experience advantage is important.

Coffeyville and Butler played three times this season, with the Grizzlies going 2-1 but Coffeyville winning the most recent matchup. Martin says it's helpful to know a bit about your postseason opponent.

Game 1 begins at 3 p.m. CT on Wednesday afternoon, with Game 2 on Thursday at 3, and Game 3 Friday at 1 if needed. All games can be streamed on the Red Raven Sports Network, with Games 1 and 3 on Sonshine 98.9 and Game 2 on US 98.

A Pittsburg High School softball player is having a season to remember, including challenging an all-time state record.

Brette Pasteur is a junior on the Purple Dragons softball team, and has established herself as one of the top overall talents in Southeast Kansas. Pasteur is hitting .712 on the season, with 37 hits, 11 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, and 41 runs batted in.

The junior is close to the all-time record for batting average in Kansas, which is held by Kendall Patterson of McLouth, who hit .810 in 2008. Pasteur also plays for the Iowa Premier club team, which is one of the best in the area, and is earning Division 1 interest in her junior season. 

Brette isn't the only hitter in the Purple Dragon lineup, as six different players are hitting over .400 this season, and Pittsburg is 16-2 on the year.

Bartlesville Bruins softball is returning to the state tournament.

The Bruins will be competing for a 6A state championship once again, for the second consecutive slow pitch season, and the third straight season overall.

The Lady Bruins beat Claremore 11-0 before beating Deer Creek twice, 4-2 and 10-3, to win the Regional tournament.

Bartlesville finished with 16 hits in the final game of Regionals, led by Erin Bridendolph who had four hits in five at-bats.

BHS will know their fate in the state tournament when the bracket is released later this week.

The Royals' bats broke out in a big way, setting a franchise record in the 11-6 win over the Orioles.

Kansas City hit seven home runs in the victory, breaking the previous record for home runs in a game, with six back in 2020 in a win over the Tigers.

Maikel Garcia hit two home runs, while Bobby Witt Jr, Vinnie Pasquantino, Jonathan India, Michael Massey, and Luke Maile also left the yard at Camden Yards. Manager Matt Quatraro says it was a rare slugfest for the club.

After a very slow start to the season offensively, the Royals have the second best team batting average in baseball over the past two weeks. Quatraro says he credits it to the guys staying patient.

Kansas City is 19-16 on the season, and open a series with the Chicago White Sox tonight at Kauffman Stadium, with coverage beginning at 6 p.m. CT on the Mighty 690.

A key piece and the captain of the Lady Raven basketball team has committed to where she will continue her career.

Forward Alexis Parker has committed to the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Parker was a two-year contributor for Tony Turner, appearing in 30 games in her freshman season and averaging four points per game. Parker returned for her sophomore season and was elected captain, and averaged 4.7 points and 3.9 rebounds in 31 games.

Parker is from Anadarko, Oklahoma, and played a variety of roles for the team, leading the second team off the bench for a stretch of conference play, and sliding into the starting lineup to contribute after an injury to Aubrey Hishaw.

The Lady Braves went 14-15 last season, with a 10-14 conference record.

A Red Raven basketball player is off to Division 1, following two impressive seasons in Coffeyville.

Point guard Brian Griffith announced his commitment to Division 1 Niagara University in New York last week. He says the Purple Eagles have some similarities to the Red Ravens.

Griffith is from Owensboro, Kentucky, and graduated high school as the all-time leading scorer at Owensboro Catholic. He says he uses his hometown as motivation for his career.

Niagara is led by head coach Greg Paulus, who played basketball at Duke and football at Syracuse. Griffith says Paulus caught his attention early in the process.

Griffith finishes his Red Raven career as a KJCCC All-Freshman Team selection, 1st-Team All-KJCCC this season, and top five in the league in both scoring and 3-pointers.

Following nearly a month-long search, Bartlesville High School has their new boys' basketball coach, announcing the hiring of Jake Christenson.

Christenson was most recently the head coach at 4A Cushing, where he led the Tigers to a 19-9 season and the No. 13 ranking in Class 4A. He will replace Tommy DeSalme, who departed the program to take the head coach job at Garden City Community College.

Christenson says he's looking to get the Bruins back to the level they've been at.

Christenson has ties to the area as well, serving as head coach at Pawhuska from 2016-20, and also having stints at Barnsdall and Shidler. BHS Athletics and Activities Director Thad Dilbeck says it's a hire that makes sense.

The Bruins have only won three games each of the past two seasons. Christenson says he embraces the challenge.

This is the fourth Bruin coach since 2001, joining Tim Bart from 2001-13, Clent Stewart from 2014-24, and DeSalme last season.

Tony Turner and the Coffeyville Community College Lady Ravens continue to add talent to the roster, looking to get back to the Region VI championship.

The team got a pair of players in the transfer portal to commit, bringing valuable college experience to the roster.

Carly Dameron is transferring to CCC from Hutchinson Community College, where she appeared in 14 games as a true freshman. Dameron is from Goddard Eisenhower, where she was a two-time all-league selection for the Lady Tigers, and averaged 14.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game.

Additionally, Stephie Salumu is transferring from South Georgia Tech, where she had an impressive freshman season for the Lady Jets. Salumu played at Wichita Independent, and was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year and 1st-Team All-Conference in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.

Both transfers bring size as well with Dameron six-foot-two and Salumu six foot even. The Lady Ravens went 26-6 last season, finishing third in the KJCCC in the regular season, and finishing as tournament runner-up.

Red Raven Powerlifting competed well at the 2025 Missouri Barbell Classic in Springfield, Missouri.

The highlight of the meet was Caden Dougan breaking the USAPL State dead lift record by 38.5 pounds, with a lift of 710 pounds.

On the women's side, Anna Elliott finished first in bench, squad, dead lift, and overall in the 60 kg weight class. Sydnee Jackson also swept the 82 kg class, and Lizzy Welch swept the 90 kg class.

On the men's side, Dougan finished first in bench, squat, dead lift, and overall in the 140+ weight class, while Brandon Morris finished first in bench and squat, and second in dead lift in the 110 weight class.

A Royals prospect made a Major League debut that will be remembered for years to come.

Left-handed pitcher Noah Cameron took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and allowed no runs, in the team's 3-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Cameron grew up a Royals fan in St. Joseph, Missouri, and was drafted by his hometown team out of Central Arkansas in 2021.

He says it's an indescribable feeling.

Cameron issued five walks, but allowed just one hit in more than six innings of work, earning his first big league win with Royals captain Salvador Perez navigating behind home plate. Cameron says working with Perez is the ultimate treat.

Cameron has been sent back down to Triple-A following the game, with Cole Ragans expected to return next week, but the lefty has made the ultimate first impression for a team that has already turned left-handers Ragans and Kris Bubic into stars.
