Basketball season at Independence Community College with a pair of first-round defeats in the Region VI Tournament on Saturday.

 

The Lady Pirates dropped their contest to No. 5 seed Cowley by a final score of 99-58. After a competitive first half, the Tigers opened the second half on a 19-3 run, opening their lead up to 29.

 

Alisson Reese led ICC with 21 points, while Mikka Chambers had 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Pirates finish the season 3-28 in the first year under Head Coach Shavonda Price.

 

The men lose a heartbreaker in overtime to Garden City by a final score of 88-86. Garden's Boston Harker hit the game-winning shot with less than five seconds remaining in overtime,

 

Chris Dockery finished with 27 for the Pirates, while Chiante Tramble had 21 as well. The Pirates finish 12-19 in the second season under Head Coach Jai Steadman.
