Josh Shields is named Interim Cherryvale Police Chief after the resignation of Jimmy Holt.

 

At Monday's meeting, Assistant Police Chief Josh Shields was appointed police chief for a period not to exceed six months until a new chief can be hired. Holt tendered his resignation last Friday to become Assistant Chief with the Independence Police Department.

 

The Council also approved the purchase of three used police vehicles for a total cost up to $35,000. Sheilds says they are having problems with many of their vehicles, which are spending a lot of time in the shop.

 

In other business, a discussion on city storm shelters took place. Cherryvale Resident Brook Austin also spoke before the Council, expressing concerns on government accountability and the city's direction as leadership positions are filled.

 

The Council also gave approval to spend up to $20,000 to switch back to the previous gWorks public works software the city had been using after problems were encountered with the current vendor.
