Pursuit and Narcotics Arrest in Pittsburg

Two Pittsburg men have been arrested after leading police on a chase throughout Crawford County.

During a routine patrol, Pittsburg Police officers spotted a red 1997 Jeep Wrangler that was believed to be associated with the theft of a Caterpillar Skid-steer. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop when the vehicle began to flee. After repeated attempts to stop the vehicle, a Crawford County Deputy used stop sticks to end the chase.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 24-year-old William F. Johns II and the passenger was identified as 30-year-old Zachary R. Winemiller. A search of the vehicle turned up 65 grams of methamphetamine intended for distribution.

Johns was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, attempting to elude law enforcement, and theft and possession of stolen property. Winemiller was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, interference with law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violations of parole through the Kansas Department of Corrections. Winemiller was arrested last week for his involvement with a reported shooting incident and subsequent pursuit.
