Verna Fay Myer, age 63, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly at her home on August 11, 2026.
Verna was born and raised in Coffeyville, Kansas, to Leslie and Lynn Leone (March) Ehart on June 14, 1963. She attended local schools and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School. She furthered her education at Labette County Junior College, earning a nursing degree as a registered nurse.
In her early years, Verna and her family were committed members of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Later in life, she devotedly attended the First Baptist Church in Chanute.
Verna was passionately dedicated to nursing, remembered fondly for her work at CRMC, Guest Home Estates in Chanute, and most recently, the Community Health Clinic in Iola, Kansas.
A devoted Christian, mother, and daughter, Verna emphasized the importance of faith to her daughters Letitia, Shelby, and Sydney. She tenderly cared for her parents as they aged, illustrating her deep family commitment. As her parents aged and their health declined Verna was right there to lean a hand and care for them until they passed. Verna’s family was deeply important to her, and she always looked forward to seeing her daughters who are now grown independent women.
Beyond her professional life, Verna volunteered at Castaways Animal Shelter in Chanute and served on its board of directors. An adventurous spirit, she loved traveling—especially to the beach—and embraced new experiences.
She is survived by her daughters Letitia Wright and husband George, Shelby Coons, and Sydney Coons; brother DeWayne Ehart; sister Terry (Theresa) Buchanan and husband Steve; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and co-workers.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas.
