Michael Handshumaker

 

Michael Handshumaker, age 74, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family, Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas.

 

Mike was born on July 11, 1951, in Coffeyville to Lloyd and Bernice (Nance) Handshumaker. He grew up in Coffeyville where he attended Old Parker School and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School class of 1969.

 

On November 24, 1972, he married the love of his life, Linda Clayton in Liberty, Kansas. The couple made their home in Coffeyville where they raised their daughters, Kelli and Stacy. Mike worked a variety of jobs throughout the years before having to retire for medical reasons.

 

Mike enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing golf, woodworking, crafting, construction work, car restoration, flying radio-controlled airplanes, and was considered a “Renaissance” man to those who knew him. Most of all he loved his family and the time he spent surrounded by them.

 

Surviving to honor his memory are his wife Linda Handshumaker of the home; daughters, Kelli (Jason) Matney, Stacy (Chris) Main; grandchildren, Amy (Dakotah) Walker, Austin (Becka Foster) Matney, Haydn (Shaydan Brown) Main, great-grandchildren, Hudson, Holden, Emmalynn, Kacey; siblings, Sharon Caulkins, Bettie Hill, Steve (Juanita) Handshumaker along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Bernice Handshumaker; siblings, Gary, Don, Dale, Lloyd and Carol.

 

Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

A private family burial will take place at a later date at the Spring Hill Cemetery north of Coffeyville under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Coffeyville Friends of Animals. These may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N. Cline Rd. Coffeyville, KS 67337.
