Dr. Raymond Glen Hawley, M.D. passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at his home in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Raymond was born on January 13, 1939, in Cambridge, Kansas to Pearl and Gladys (Logsdon) Hawley. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1957. Raymond furthered his education at Kansas State University where he earned his Arts and Science degree in 1961 and worked on his pre-med and ROTC during those years. He went on to attend University of Kansas where he earned his medical degree in 1965.
During his time at med school, Raymond met and fell in love with Phyllis A. Williams, they were united in marriage on August 25, 1963. In 1966, after graduating from med school, Raymond served his internship at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita until they moved to Columbus, Ohio where he finished his internship in 1970 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Raymond enlisted in the United States Army as a part of the Berry Plan; he served as a Major at Camp Zama, Japan from 1970 to 1973 and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. While in Japan he climbed Mt. Fuji and traveled broadly throughout the rest of Asia.
After fulfilling his commitment to the military, he returned to Kansas, living in Concordia until 1976. The family relocated to Wichita where Raymond worked as a pathologist for St. Joe Hospital and St. Francis Hospital (later known as Via Christi). In 2000, he and Phyllis moved to Coffeyville where Raymond worked at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center for sixteen years. With his microscope, he helped many patients in his career with a cancer diagnosis so that they could begin a treatment plan and heal. Raymond served the communities he lived in for 47 years, retiring in 2012. His hard work and dedication were valued by all who knew him.
Raymond loved nature, environmentalism, and being outdoors. He found joy in gardening, bonsai, and attending mycology conventions in the mountains of Colorado. He served as a boy scout leader and merit badge counselor for many years. He loved art and photography and admired antiques. What stood out most was his kindness and honesty and charity and the love he had for his wife and three boys; he was a wonderful husband and father.
