Stephen "Steve" Bates, 56, of Coffeyville passed away Friday, December 19, 2025, at Ascension St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

 

Steve was born on November 12, 1969, in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Harold "Harry" and Darlene (Wright) Bates, Sr.  When he was young, the family moved to Coffeyville where Steve grew up and attended school, graduating from Field Kindley High School. Steve dedicated over 20 years of his life to the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier before retiring. His commitment to his work was not only recognized professionally but also deeply appreciated by the community he served. Stephen's love for his job was rivalled only by his passion for video games and cheering for the Minnesota Vikings.

 

Stephen was a beloved father, son, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his daughter Jenna Bates, his mother Darlene Bates, his sister Sherry Koger, and his brother Harold Bates Jr. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold "Harry" Bates, Sr.

 

Following Stephen's wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. No public services are scheduled at this time.
