Eddie Leon O'Neill

Eddie Leon O’Neill, age 67, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Ascension St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

 

Eddie was born on June 9, 1957, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Lawrence “Pat” D. and Darlene Evelyn (Siler) O’Neill.  He grew up in Coffeyville where he attended Field Kindley High School and Bible Baptist Christian School.  Eddie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for a year and half before receiving his honorable discharge. 

 

On May 1, 1982, he was united in marriage to Donna Hoosier in Stanfield, Oregon.  Of this union a son, Patrick Edward O’Neill, was born. 

 

Eddie worked as a water and sewer treatment management operator, first for a potato processing plant in Boardman, Oregon, then in wastewater for the City of Shidler, Oklahoma and for the City of Clinton, Oklahoma.  Eddie furthered his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in teaching.  He spent a year working for the Department of Defense in Atsugi, Japan on the Naval and Airforce Base as a teacher.  Upon returning to Coffeyville in 2002 he worked for the Cherryvale school system as a full-time teacher, then as a substitute teacher for USD 445. 

 

Eddie loved his family, and he loved the Lord.  He was a member of the Coffeyville Bible Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee.  Eddie taught Sunday School at the Assembly of God and loved bringing others to know Christ.  Eddie was a member of the Royal Rangers in Oregon, Oklahoma and Kansas where he served as Lead Commander and Regional Commander.  Eddie enjoyed spending his time outdoors, he loved nature and was an avid survivalist.  He liked to go camping, hunting, fishing, repelling, target practice, and traveling all over to see the gifts nature had to offer.  He and Donna spent several years as camp hosts at Twin Lakes in Pendleton, South Carolina and Watsadler in Hartwell, Georgia.  He loved spending time surrounded by his family and friends and will be fondly remembered for telling jokes and making people laugh. 

 

Surviving to honor his memory is his loving wife, Donna O’Neill of the home; son, Patrick O’Neill and wife, Casey O’Neill of Anderson, South Carolina; granddaughter, Hannah Grace “Gracie” O’Neill; sisters, Alice Long, Peggy Wieneke and husband, Dennis all of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Patty Long and husband, Randy of Old Mill Town, Georgia; sister-in-law, Connie Rosewall of Dixon, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Ellen Jackson of Coffeyville, Kansas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Darlene O’Neill; father-in-law, Virgil Ollie Hoosier; brother-in-law, Rick Long; brother-in-law, Kenneth Rosewall and nephew, Daniel Long. 

 

Following Eddie’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.

 

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Coffeyville Bible Baptist Church.  Pastor Daniel Knight will officiate.  A private family inurnment will take place at a later time in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville. 

 

The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Coffeyville Bible Baptist Church or to the Gideons International; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W.
