Patricia "Pat" D. Seger

Patricia “Pat” D. Seger, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 11, 2025.

 

Pat was born on November 5, 1940, in Independence, Kansas to Merle and Edyth (Damewood) Denney.  Her father passed away in 1942, when she was only 2 years old.  Her mother, Edyth, later married Edward Hannah.  The family lived in Independence until Pat was 7 years old, they relocated to Coffeyville, Kansas where she resided her whole life.  She attended local schools and graduated with the class of 1958, from Field Kindley Memorial High School.

 

It was during her 5th grade year at Pearson Elementary School that she met Bill Seger who turned out to be the love of her life.  After dating throughout high school, the couple were united in marriage on May 8, 1959, in Coffeyville.  Together they raised three girls, Elaine, Cheryl, Pam and nephew, Rich.  They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary just last week.

 

Through the years they loved to travel, sightsee and experience new places.  They enjoyed trips to Colorado, a cruise in Alaska, visiting Walt Disney World in Florida, and numerous trips to Branson, Missouri.  Her hobbies included quilting, sewing and reading.  She attended Dearing Christian Church.  Most of all she loved her family and the time she spent surrounded by them.

 

Pat worked at various jobs throughout her life.  In addition to helping take care of their family, she worked as a clerk for Clines Drugstore, then as an operator for Southwestern Bell.  From 1968 until 1976 she drove a school bus for USD 445, from 1976 until her retirement in 2002 she worked in various positions for John Deere, formerly Funk Manufacturing.

 

Surviving to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Bill Seger of the home; daughters, Elaine Riley and husband, Leon, Cheryl Rutten, Pam Armstrong and husband, Howard all of Coffeyville, Kansas; nephew, Rich Davidson and wife, Dawn of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren, Eric (April) Riley and their children, Reegan and Abigail, Alysia (Matt) Walthall and their children, Katlyn and Rebecca, Brad (Jennifer) Armstrong and their children, Alex and Chris, Sarah (Duane “DJ”) Manley, Michelle Armstrong, Krystal Davidson and daughter, Makenzy, Matt Armstrong, Adrianne Davidson; sisters, Judy Nickel and family, Johnny Falke and family; numerous extended family members and friends.  Pat was preceded in death by her father, Merle Denney; mother and stepfather, Edward and Edyth Hannah; son-in-law, James “Jim” Rutten; great granddaughter, Ellianna Armstrong; sister, Linda Davidson and stepsister, Deloris Miller.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 1 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.  The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

 

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Dearing Christian Church in Dearing, Kansas.  Pastor Jamie Regis will officiate.  Burial will follow at Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett, Kansas. 

 

The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to Dearing Christian Church; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N. Cline Rd. Coffeyville, KS 67337.
