Phyllis Ann Wiles,

Phyllis Ann Wiles, 88, of Coffeyville was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the Journey Home in Bartlesville following a short illness.

 

Phyllis was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on May 9, 1936. She was adopted that day by Leo and Gladys (Lingle) Argyle. She spent all her life in Coffeyville.

 

She attended Lowell Grade School, Roosevelt Junior High School and graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1954. She also attended and graduated from Coffeyville Community Junior College in 1956.

 

On June 17, 1956, she married the love of her life, Jerry William Wiles. They were married for 60 years.

 

She was a charter member of the Coffeyville Bible Church.

 

In her youth she was involved in figure skating (roller skates). She and her partner Johnny Lee Milligan qualified for the National competition in Denver, Colorado. She also had a love for horses. She was in several riding clubs and drill teams.

 

Phyllis was active in orchestra throughout her school years playing the cello. She was also active in Matinee Musical. Phyllis also played for the college, high school and Neewollah orchestras for their musicals. She worked as a switchboard operator while in college and until she became a stay-at-home mom. While she was a stay at home mom, she also helped her husband in several businesses such as the Fina and Texaco gas stations. In 1972 she and Jerry opened their own auto repair business, J/P Auto Service. Along with helping Jerry in 1987 she went to work for USD 445 as a Kindergarten Teacher’s Aide at Edgewood Grade School and later at Community Elementary for the next 31 years.

 

Phyllis loved fishing and camping, and enjoyed sewing and painting, but above all she loved spending time with her family and attending school activities, such as baseball, basketball, cattle shows, dance recitals and recently mini rod tractor pulls just to name a few. Anything that involved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren she would be there to support and cheer them on. She also liked to sew and paint. Phyllis also carried on traditions, started by her mom, of baking Christmas cookies and making stockings with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and as of last Christmas even her great-great-granddaughter.

 

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, LeAnn Rexwinkle (Mike Benning), of Coffeyville, daughter-in-law Julie Wiles of Overland Park, KS, grandchildren, Eric Wiles (Kari) of Stillwell, KS, Sarah Zschoche (Matt) of Overland Park, KS, Greg Wiles (Bri) of The Colony, TX, Leo Rexwinkle (Janna) of Dayton, TX, Lynn Dickson (Nathan) of Nowata, OK, great-grandchildren, Ani Rexwinkle of Vinita, OK, Emmalee, Tanner, and Gregory William “GW” Dickson, Creighton, Reagan, Charlea, and Quincee Wiles, Ella Grace “EG”, Reed Zschoche, Oliver and Georgia Wiles, Makenzie and Maci Bielfeldt, one great-great-granddaughter Chloe Leighanne Renshaw, sister-in-law Shirley Isnard of Coffeyville, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Special friends Mairlyn and Ed Todd, Pam and Randy Weatherby, Kathy Sikes, and a host of former colleagues and students

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Gladys Argyle, an infant brother, Jerry Lee, husband Jerry, and son Tim.

 

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr Anderson Mehrle, Dr Allen Gillis, Carrie Strimple, Jane Phillips Medical Center and Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Veteran’s Memorial Patio at 10:00am with Larry Wilkes officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband Jerry in Restlawn Memorial Park.

 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Coffeyville Bible Church at 507 Fresno, Coffeyville, KS 67337.

 

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations be made payable to the Coffeyville Bible Church or to the Coffeyville FFA Booster Club and they may be left with or sent in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 North Cline Road Coffeyville, KS 67337.
