Obituaries

Kandi Darlene Tackett

With heavy hearts and fond memories, we announce the passing of Kandi Darlene Tackett, who left us on January 14, 2025. Born on June 20, 1961, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she was the youngest of Charles Murray and Shirley Kay (Redden) Green’s four children. Kandi was a vibrant soul, a faithful companion, a loving mother, and a cherished friend.

As a child, Kandi attended Brownfields Elementary in Baton Rouge and then graduated from Northbrook Senior High School in Houston, Texas in 1979. She then attended Sam Houston State University in Houston, Texas.

Soon after entering college, Kandi followed her parents to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she met her husband, Robert Earl Tackett . They were married on September 3rd, 1983 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Kandi and Robert have two children, Amanda Kay and Victor Murray.

Kandi and Robert worked as restaurant franchisees in Tulsa until they moved to Manhattan, Kansas in 1998 where she worked for Dillon’s Pharmacy as a clerk and pharmacy technician until she could no longer work.

Although Kandi had a variety of professions, above all else, she was known as a “mama“ to so many. She truly dedicated her life to her family, going above and beyond to make sure they were happy, healthy, and loved. Both her personality and laugh were infectious to those around her, and her love was always shared through her hospitality. She had a rare knack for making sure anyone in her presence knew they were cared for. She rightfully earned the nickname “Mama Kandi” from many of her colleagues and children’s friends.

Kandi always had a strong faith in our Lord and wanted to ensure she shared that with her family. They find comfort knowing she is no longer in pain and with her Savior.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Tackett; daughter, Amanda Kay Thacker (Josh) and their children, Caden and Lucas; son, Victor Murray Tackett (Madelyn) and their children, Benjamin, William, and Cecilia; sister, Tracey Kay Hodges and her children, Nikkole Branch, Josh Hodges, and Morgan Bridges; brother Charles Murray Green Jr. (Suzanne) and their children, Brad Green and Corey Green; father-in-law, Victor Earl Tackett Jr.; brother-in-law, William Earl Tackett (Teresa) and their children, Sarah Davenport, Megan Mayes, and Laurabeth Tackett.

She is preceded in death by her parents; paternal grandparents, Ben and Lorraine Green; maternal grandparents, Robert and Darlene Redden; brother, Robert Stacey Green, mother-in-law, Mildred Pauline Tackett, and nephew, Colt Hodges.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 5 to 7pm at David W Barnes Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Friday,  January 17, 2025 at 11:00 am at Grace Fellowship Church in Coffeyville in Coffeyville, with burial to follow in Galena, Kansas.
