Beloved mother, grandmother, and Coffeyville resident Mary Ann Byrne passed on July 2, 2024. Born December 15, 1947, in Independence, MO - Mary Ann inspired life, resilience, and compassion.
Raised in Independence MO, Mary Ann expressed her creative talent at the Kansas City Art Institute until she transferred to the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Art History and minor in geology. On July 4th, 1970, Mary Ann and John Byrne were married in Kansas City, MO and ultimately planted roots in Coffeyville, Kansas in 1973, where she raised 5 children. Mary Ann served her community as a mail carrier and clerk for the U.S. Postal Service until retirement in 2006. Through her passions, whether she was enjoying horses, crafting ceramics, tending to her plants, or sharing her love of learning through 4-H, church, and community events, Mary Ann lived her life to the fullest.
She is survived by her daughters Jo Ann Byrne (m. Pablo Cheveres), Joye Lynn Byrne, Jeannie Byrne, Janis Byrne, and Jerolyn Byrne; her granddaughters Quisitis Su and Victoria Petti; her ex-husband and friend John Byrne and her two sisters Theresa Brandon and Patricia Montez. Mary Ann is predeceased by her only son Joshua Byrne and her parents; Allen Thomas Messina and Mary (Mallen) Messina.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday July 15th, 2024 at 10 am at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, Ks for final respects and followed by burial services at Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville.
Friends may sign the register book on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
