Cheryl Gale (Garman) Rider

Cheryl Gale (Garman) Rider passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023, in Coffeyville, Kansas at Medicalodge on Midland at the age of 78.

Cheryl was born in Coffeyville on November 22, 1944, to Foney and Madeleine (Moreland) Garman.  After her parent’s divorced, her mother remarried and she was raised by her mother and Albert “Solly” Solenberger, Jr. in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Cheryl’s elementary education was in Coffeyville and Bartlesville, she graduated College High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1962.

She met Jerry “Bud” Rider by a mutual friend they shared.  After a brief courtship they were married on August 1,1964 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  They made their home in Bartlesville for two years before relocating to Coffeyville, making Jerry’s commute to work shorter.  For 57 years Coffeyville has been home.  They have had many fond memories together including raising their children, David, and Melinda, and just celebrating 58 years of marriage.

Cheryl worked at Reda Pump in Bartlesville as a young woman and CO-OP Refinery in Coffeyville for a short period of time, quitting to raise her children.  Due to unpreventable circumstances Cheryl’s mother worked long hours when she was a child.  Because of that experience she deeply desired to be able to be a homemaker to be there to raise their children.   Both Cheryl and Jerry were committed to make this happen, making any sacrifices necessary for their family.  Cheryl worked with the PTA and was a home room mother.  She was a den mother in Boy Scouts.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and even helped babysit when her daughter went to work.  As adults, both David and Mendy appreciate the sacrifices made by their parents for their mom to be a fulltime homemaker. They realize that being a fulltime homemaker and mother was one of the hardest, most important, and yet rewarding jobs Cheryl could have ever had.

Survivors include her husband Jerry of the home; son David Rider; daughter Mendy and Jason Coffey; grandchildren, Jonathan and Tina Coffey, Joey Coffey, and Madison Coffey; brothers, Alan and Nadine Solenberger, Norman and Carolyn Garman, and Lonnie Garman; sister, Connie Chapman; brother-in-law, Dale Rider; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; father; and sister-in-law Shirley Rider.

Memorial services celebrating Cheryl’s life will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 2pm at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2023, also at the chapel from 5-7pm.  Services will be streamed live under her obituary page www.fordwulfbrunschapel.com  you may also leave an online condolence or share a memory with the family.
