Terry Gale Hollyfield

 

Terry Gale Hollyfield 78, passed away on Tuesday January 31,2023 at his son's home in Derby, Kansas surrounded by his family.

 

Terry was born January 26, 1945, to Eldon Watson Hollyfield and Verna Ruth Hollyfield (Bixby) in Coffeyville, Kansas. He grew up in Coffeyville and graduated from Field Kindley High School Class of 1963. Terry attended Coffeyville Community College and was in the United States Army Reserves. 

 

On November 18, 1967, Terry married the love of his life Mary Suzanne Potter, and they made their lifelong home in Coffeyville with their three children.

 

Terry went to work for Nu-Way Foodliner in 1959 where he continued until Nu-Way closed its doors. Terry went on to work at Country Mart where he cut meat until his retirement in 2014. He loved working in the public and visiting with people every day, he never met a stranger. 

 

During the years Terry was a caregiver to both his parents and Suzanne's parents, later on he was Suzanne's caregiver as well. He always believed in taking care of your family at home with love was the right thing to do.

 

Terry loved sports and enjoyed playing as well, Softball and fastpitch every summer as much as he could. Once he got a little older, he enjoyed golf and of course was a diehard Chiefs, Royals and Jayhawk fan. Terry had a passion for a perfectly groomed lawn. He mowed and edged his lawn at least twice a week. Once he had completed the job, he would sit on the porch with a cold one and admire his freshly cut grass with the sprinkler on and the transistor radio going.

 

Survivors include Brooke Ashlock and husband Michael of Independence, KS Brian Hollyfield and wife Amanda of Derby, Ks and Kaci Hollyfield of Coffeyville, Ks Terry was blessed with six grandchildren: Haylie Hollyfield of Independence, Ks, Hope Ashlock of Independence, Ks and Tagan and Drake Hollyfield of Derby, Ks, Sadie Hilton of Wichita, Ks and Addi Hilton of Manhattan, Ks. He had one great granddaughter Ryan Suzanne Watson of Independence, Ks. Terry had a twin brother Jerry Hollyfield and his wife Marsha of Olathe m, Ks, an older brother Roger and his wife Judy Hollyfield of Edmond, OK a host of nieces and nephews and cousins that loved him.

 

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife Suzanne.

 

Cremation has taken place, a Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 4th at 2pm at the New Vision Church located at 906 Elm, Coffeyville, KS 67337.

 

A private family Inurnment will take place at a later date.

 

Friends may sign the memory book on March 3rd from 9am to 5pm at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

His family suggests memorial donations be made to Phoenix Home care and Hospice of Derby, Kansas and to the American Heart Association.
