Richard "Rick" C. Means

Richard "Rick" C. Means, age 68, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023, peacefully at home with his favorite person at his side, his daughter Jennifer Means and his sister Jackie Moses. There is no doubt Rick was greeted in heaven by many of his loved ones including his parents, Leo and Ruth Means; his brother, Steve Means; brother-in-law, Sonny Moses and his nephew, Danny Moses.

Leo and Ruth Means were blessed with Ricks arrival into this world on June 2, 1954, in Coffeyville, Kansas. Rick was greeted by his older siblings Jackie, Mickey and Donna. (Steve was the baby after Rick). There were seven years between Jackie, the oldest sibling, and Rick. It is often asked by the nieces and nephews was Rick Jackie's child or her brother. There are several reasons for this. As a young teenager, when Jackie and her husband, Sonny Moses, moved to Valparaiso, Indiana Rick went along to help Jackie with her three young children while husband worked. As the years passed and Rick was an adult, it wasn't unusual to stop by Sonny and Jackie’s to find Rick there having dinner with them. At different times in Rick’s life, he called Sonny and Jackie’s house home.

Rick grew up primarily in Coffeyville KS where he graduated from FKHS. He achieved his journeyman status as a plumber and pipefitter. Over the years he worked at various local jobs which included Page Milk, and Bunny Bread. Later Rick went into the plumbing business with his dad, and then went on to do pipefitting with the Local #339. But his favorite work was that of a firefighter. He truly loved how they cared for each other like a family. He also worked for Taylor Crane & Rigging. He eventually found his place at Windsor Place Nursing Home as Head of Maintenance for over 20 years until his health declined and he retired in 2019. At Windsor he found more than a career, he found a true family and a great friend in Montie Coffman. Even through the years and right up until Ricks death Montie was by his side. Rick knew that their friendship was rare and genuine. Rick often would speak of Montie with admiration.

In 1976 Rick married Linda Twitchell and gained a bonus son, Stacey Allen. They had one daughter, Jennifer Means in 1982. Jennifer was his whole world. Rick was the kind of dad that was always there. He provided unconditional love. Rick and Linda’s marriage ended in divorce but later in life they became good friends and Linda helped their daughter Jennifer to care for him in the last few months.

Over the years Rick had many different hobbies. He enjoyed bass fishing, traveling and seeing different places, he liked antique cars. But if you really knew Rick you know he liked his food. He loved to cook and especially grilling. His favorite foods were hot and spicy food and Chinese. He loved his grandkids and being able to spoil them. He enjoyed the little things like sharing ice cream with them. Rick was a very giving man. Rick would literally give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it.

Rick is well known as a Christian. He attended Abundant Life Temple and New Vision Ministries. Rick once walked across Coffeyville from Lewark Chuck of God to Walter Johnson Park carrying a 6 ft cross. As he walked through Coffeyville and past other churches others joined him and continued to walk with him to the park. He carried the cross again in Topeka at a protest at the capital. Rick loved all gospel music but especially the Gaithers.

He leaves behind his daughter, Jennifer Means of Coffeyville, Kansas; grandchildren, McKinzey Wooldridge of Coffeyville, Kansas, Brayden Smith (Army Specialist) and fiancé, Barbara of Hohenfels, Germany; great grandchildren, Emerly McKinnis, Kane Forehand and a great-granddaughter, Lila Mae Smith on-the-way. Also, his siblings, Jackie Moses of Coffeyville, Kansas, Mickey Means and wife, Sherry of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Donna Borem and husband, Randy of Coffeyville, Kansas along with numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

As Rick wished, cremation will take place under the direction of David W Barnes Funeral Home.
