Larry Wayne Brown

Larry Wayne Brown gained his wings on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Ascension St John Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  He was born on July 29, 1947, to Harold and Beverly (White) Brown in Hutchinson, Kansas.  He was the oldest of 12 siblings and enjoyed harassing them and being the big brother.   Larry graduated in 1965, from Nickerson High School.  After high school he went on to Fort Hayes to play football. 

 

On June 30, 1967, he married Bonnie (Linn) Brown.  They made their home in Hutchinson, Kansas.  During their marriage they had two sons and owned and operated several oil production companies, most notably L&B Oil, which was named after them, along with Potato Creek LLC which he later passed down to his sons.  The couple later divorced. 

 

Larry was a huge sports fan during his life and could be found attending or watching any sport.  He was a diehard Chiefs and KU fan.  In 1980, Larry built, owned and operated Fun Valley in Hutchinson, Kansas.  Larry sponsored several Dirt Late Model race cars and a number of drivers, lastly being his oldest son with his youngest son being the mechanic, making it a true family affair. 

 

On June 20, 2007, he married Regina Woodson, they made their home in Edna, Kansas.  In 2000, Larry bought and ran Mid-America Speedway where you could always hear him say "come on and race here, it's 70° and sunny" even during a thunderstorm.  Larry was happiest when he was surrounded by his family playing cards and telling stories. 

 

Larry is survived by his wife, Regina Brown of the home; his two sons, Daryl (Gina) Brown, Daniel (Shanna) Brown, Bonnie Brown all of Coffeyville, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Jesse) Peyton of Coffeyville, Kansas, Crystal (Joey Isle) Brown of Coffeyville, Kansas, Cody (Rachael) Brown of Owasso, Oklahoma, Jordan (Andrew) Galinas of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Colton and Shaydan Brown of Coffeyville, Kansas; six great-grandchildren, Destiny, Aiden and Owen Peyton of Coffeyville, Kansas, Xander and Jaxon Galanis of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Weston Brown of Owasso, Oklahoma; siblings, Dale (Deonna) Brown of Nickerson, Kansas, Judy Nieoff of Salina, Kansas, Susan Adkins of Topeka, Kansas, Mark (Eddie) Brown of Woodward, Oklahoma, Debbie Palmer of Nickerson, Kansas, Brenda Brown of Hutchison, Kansas, Terri (Bill) Proffitt of Hutchinson, Kansas, Annabelle Stewart of South Hutchinson, Kansas, Todd (Kristy) Brown of Salina, Kansas, Lori (Keven) Olson of Stuart, Florida along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Beverly Brown and a sister, Janet Brown. 

 

A Visitation will be held at David W. Barnes Funeral Home on Thursday, February 16, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. for those who would like to stop by the funeral home to sign the guest register.  Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be held at Grace Fellowship Church from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening. 

 

Following Larry's wishes, cremation will take place following the visitation, under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. 

 

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Fellowship Church in Coffeyville.  Pastor Doug Mund will officiate.

 

The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to Grace Fellowship Church; these may be left with or sent in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Rd, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
