Martha L. McCurley

Martha L. McCurley, 84, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023, at her home.

 

She was born on May 3, 1938, in Coffeyville to John and Ida (Sprague) Tosh.  Martha grew up and attended school in Coffeyville.

 

When Martha was a teenager, she worked at the Terminal Building in Coffeyville. She later worked as a checker at Nu-Way Foodliner, worked at TG&Y and was a manager at Ken’s Pizza in the 1970’s.

 

Martha married Dale Tackkett on June 27, 1956, and they had four children. They later divorced.  She married Jay Dee Evans, and he preceded her in death. 

 

On December 4, 1993, she married David McCurley.  Shortly after their marriage they moved to the Branson, Missouri area where they lived until returning to Coffeyville six years ago.

 

Martha enjoyed attending Ridin for the Brand Cowboy Church in Wann, Oklahoma. She also enjoyed bowling, sewing, doing embroidery work, above all else she loved her kids, grandchildren and her younger siblings.

 

Survivors include her husband, David McCurley; her children, Pamela Ward, Genia Leroy, John (Sonya) Tackkett and Sonya (Larry Shufelt) Tackkett; step-children, David McCurley, Cathe Giannetti, Kerry McCurley and Sharon Sudowski; brother, Kenneth Tosh, and Clarence Tosh; and sister, Sharon Felton; twelve grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ida Tosh; her husband, Jay Dee Evans, and five brothers, John Tosh, Joe Tosh, Charles Tosh, Jimmy Tosh, and Steve Tosh.

 

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the Veterans Memorial Patio in Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Jimmy Harrington of Ridin for the Brand Cowboy Church in Wann, Oklahoma officiating.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

 

Friends may call on Wednesday, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

The family suggests memorials in Martha’s memory to the Kansas Highway Patrol; contributions may be left with or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
