Martin Kyle Smith

Martin Kyle Smith, 64, a lifelong Dearing, Kansas resident passed away Monday, January 16, 2023, at his home.

 

He was born on September 15, 1958, at Coffeyville, Kansas to Joseph Lee and Delma E. (Lucas) Smith.  Marty grew up in Dearing where he attended Dearing Elementary School and graduated from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville.

 

When Marty was 16, he became a junior Firefighter with the Dearing Fire Department, serving not only his community but the surrounding area became his lifetime vocation. He served as Chief of the Dearing Fire Department, and all together served his community for nearly 50 years.

 

Following high school Marty began working at Funk Manufacturing (John Deere Coffeyville Works) in the Shipping and Receiving Department where he continued to work until retiring when he was in his early 50’s.  Following his retirement, he devoted his time to helping care for his parents, the Fire Department, and the entire Dearing community.

 

Marty was a member of the Dearing Christian Church, and the Dearing Fire Department.  He loved attending Car Shows and Auctions with his children and loved collecting anything to do with fire trucks.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Heather Smith of Haskell, Oklahoma, his son, Larry Smith of Kingston, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Chazlin Smith, Shealynn Smith and Kyle Smith; two sisters, Terri Bishop and Leanna Fowler both of Dearing; and one brother, Gail Smith of Coffeyville.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Delma Smith.

 

Following Marty’s wishes cremations has taken place and a Memorial Service Celebrating his life will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the Dearing Christian Church with Pastor Jamie Regis officiating.  Following the service inurnment will be in Jefferson Cemetery northwest of Dearing.

 

Friends may sign the register book on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

The family suggests memorials to the Dearing Fire Department; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
