Louis W. Lattin, "Louie"

Louis W. Lattin, “Louie” 89, of Dearing, KS passed away Friday evening December 30, 2023, at his home.  

 

Louis Wayne Lattin was born February 12, 1933. He was the only child of Orville and Goldie Lattin.  He grew up near Havana, Kansas and graduated from Havana High School in 1951. 

Louis served in the army from 1953 to 1955.  While at Fort Riley near Manhattan, he met Helen Louise DeWilde of St. George, Kansas, at a dance.  They were married on May 28, 1955 and enjoyed 65 years together. Helen preceded him in death on December 22, 2020. 

 

Louis worked for many years for Union Gas before becoming employed at the Farmland refinery in Coffeyville. He worked there as a boilermaker until his retirement in 1995.  He and Helen made their home in Dearing, KS.  Louis enjoyed working and raising cattle.  He and Helen loved to dance.  They will be fondly remembered by many who also attended area dances.  After retirement, Louis enjoyed working part time at the South Coffeyville Stockyards, helping others with their livestock, and his canine companion, Zeke. 

 

Survivors include his children, Debra Reilly (Phil) of Cherryvale, Robert Lattin (Cheryl) of Independence, and Terri Chamberlain (Mike) of Shawnee, KS; grandchildren, Torie Schrick (Paul) of Colby, Mary Reilly of Chanute, Josie Messenger (Ian) of South Haven, Adam Lattin (Alexis) of Miami, OK, Emily Lattin of Lenexa, Drew Johnson, Harper Woltering of Shawnee; and bonus granddaughter, Sam Allen of Cherryvale, six great grandchildren, along with numerous extended relatives and close friends.  

 

A Viewing/Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, Jan 5, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

The Funeral Service will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cherryvale, KS at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023, with interment in the St. Francis Xavier cemetery. 

 

Memorials Contributions may be made to the Coffeyville Friends of Animals or to St. Joseph Catholic School in Oakley, where the great grandchildren attend school; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N. Cline Rd. Coffeyville, KS 67337.
