Freda Pauline Webb

Freda Pauline Webb, age 98, of Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away on Thursday evening, December 15, 2022, at her home.

 

Freda was born on January 16, 1924, in a small community known as Corbin City (south of Cherryvale), in Drum Creek Township, Montgomery County, Kansas; to Grover Cleveland “Shorty” Webb and Jennie Dee Hopkins Webb.

 

Freda attended grade school at Corbin City and graduated as a Fighting Cherry from Cherryvale High School in 1942; and then attended night school at Olson Business College in Independence, Kansas.

 

Freda’s first job was at the “Magnet” variety store in Cherryvale. Then in 1944, she began her career in bookkeeping while working for Reliance Manufacturing Company in Cherryvale as the payroll clerk. In 1950, she started to work for the government as an auditor at the Kansas Ordinance Plant in Parsons, Kansas, until transferring to work for the plant operator National Gypsum Company.

 

In 1958, she then went to work for the M&M Meat Packing Company as the office manager in Iola, Kansas, but then returned home to help her parents in 1962 while working at MEC Company in Neodesha. In 1964 she worked briefly for the Home Lumber Company and then 25 years for Tri-State Electric Supply, both in Coffeyville. After her retirement in 1989 she continued as a bookkeeper for the family of her previous employer.

 

Freda was a long-time member of the Church Of The Nazarene in Cherryvale where she worked with the young people for many years; and was a past vice president of the Montgomery County Genealogy Society.

 

Freda was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Wilbur Martin Webb and Luther Raymond Webb.

 

She is survived by two nephews, James R. Webb and his wife Shawna and Thomas R. Webb, and one great-nephew Christopher T. Webb.

 

A private family inurnment will take place where she will be buried next to her parents in Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale.
