Obituaries

James Victor Rosenthal

James Victor Rosenthal, more commonly known as Jim, Jimmy or Rosey to those that knew him, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022, at his home in Coffeyville, Kansas.

 

Jim was born on May 6, 1951, to Joseph and Lillian Ruth (Bernath) Rosenthal in St. Louis, Missouri where he grew up and attended local schools.  He graduated in 1969, from Clayton High School in Missouri.  Jim proudly served in the United States Navy. 

 

On June 14, 1974, he married the love of his life, Cecilia “Cis” Laws in St. Louis, Missouri.  The couple lived in a few different states throughout the years.  Jim was an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad, and he transferred to Coffeyville with his family in 1991 and they have remained here ever since. 

 

Jim enjoyed vacationing at Montauk State Park since he was a child, trout fishing, playing cards and dominoes, playing piano, shooting pool with many professional pool players, and playing ping pong and sharing his hobbies with anyone who was interested.  He loved loved loved embarrassing his kids in public and spending time surrounded by his family and friends.  He loved to swim, and he loved teaching his kids and grandkids to swim. He was a great Dad and loved being a Papa to his 5 grandkids and 3 great grandkids. 

 

Surviving to honor his memory are his loving wife, Cecilia “Cis” Rosenthal of the home; children, James J Rosenthal of Henderson, Texas, Cory Rosenthal of Derby, Kansas, Kati Hayward and husband, Shundale of Coffeyville, Kansas; Grandchildren, Seandale Hayward, Ravyn Hayward, Maddy Rosenthal, Danger Rosenthal, Kristin Rosenthal; Great Grandchildren, Legend Kai, Taylin Lillie-Ann and Fate Greyce, Siblings; Raymond Rosenthal and wife, Sharon; Mark Rosenthal and wife, Rosie all of St. Louis, Missouri along with his 4-legged canine companions, Shiloh the Cocker Spaniel, and Comet the Shi-Poo.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lillian Rosenthal, and Daughter Kristen Michelle Rosenthal.

 

Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Patio at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas.

 

Friends and family can sign the guest register on Monday, December 12, 2022, at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville from 1pm until 6pm.
