Doris Ann (DePriest) Johnston, 56, of Caney, KS, passed away on December 2, 2022 to go to her forever home in Heaven.
She was born in Independence, Kansas to Marilyn and Charles DePriest. She was raised in Caney, Kansas, graduating from Caney Valley High School in 1984. She went on to graduate from Independence Community College, before completing her Bachelor’s degree at Pittsburg State University in 1988. Throughout her college years, she was happily involved in various activities, including her favorite, ICC Cheerleading, where she made several life-long friends.
From there, she worked in various business positions through JCPenney, Independence Community College, and CR Anthony. She then went on to management of Coach House Gifts in 1992, living in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Later working for Golden Living in Fort Smith, AR.
In 1994, she married John Macon Johnston and was blessed with one son, Ethan Alexander Johnston in 1995, making her family complete. She was a member of Butterfield Assembly of God Church in Van Buren, Arkansas where she contributed to several avenues. Doris was a caring, selfless woman who put others first at every stage of her life. She would never complain, always love, and dedicated her life to those in her circle.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, father Charles O. DePriest, and her oldest brother Wayne DePriest.
She is survived by her son Ethan A. Johnston, brother Brian L. DePriest, niece Jennifer L. DePriest and mother Marilyn A. DePriest.
Following Doris’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.
A Memorial Service celebrating Doris’s life will be held at the Caney United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 1:30PM with Pastor Stephen Bredesen officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the Havana cemetery at a prior date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be sent to David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N Cline Road Coffeyville, Kansas, 67337 which will be donated to American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiative, Go Red for Women.
