Buford Marvin Long

Buford Marvin Long, 95, of Coffeyville passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

He was born on December 9, 1926, in Coffeyville to Buford E. “Shorty” and Dora Irene (Mitchell) Long. Marvin grew up and attended rural schools in Labette County, Kansas and Nowata County, Oklahoma and graduated from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville.

Marvin was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Coffeyville where he worked as an Industrial Electrician at Moon-Hill Electric.

On June 21, 1947, he married Rosemary Bowman at Wichita, Kansas. Following their marriage, they made their home in Coffeyville where they raised their four children. Marvin continued working and later owning Moon-Hill Electric. He retired after 62 years of service. Rosemary preceded him in death in 2018.

He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville serving as Deacon and numerous other positions over the years.  Marvin’s family was his life, he loved going to his kids and grandkids sporting events, for many years he and his sons attended the Big 12 Basketball Tournament. Marvin and Rosemary were at many Golden Tornado and Red Raven Football and Basketball games. He enjoyed fishing and rodeo’s and especially enjoyed watching his grandson Jake Long.

Survivors include his children, Terry Long and wife, Kathy of Coffeyville, Goose Long and wife, Darla of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Crickett Long and wife, Lynette of Delaware, Oklahoma, and Pam White of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; one brother, Jimmy Dean Long and wife, Pauline of Grandview, Missouri; grandchildren, Carrie Long, Kerrie (Andrew) Dodd, Eric Fritz, Jessi Long, Amber (Zack) Wade, Zack Long, Jake (Tasha) Long, Jerome (Areli) Longacre, Lacy (Aaron) Gittinger, Lisa White, Brandie White, and Becki White; great-grandchildren, Taylor (Chris) Rivera, A.J. Dodd, Kylee Fritz, Keira Fritz, Aliyah Fritz, Lilee Wade, Luke Wade, Lauren Wade, Anna Cantrell, Wyatt Cantrell, Haven Long, Haizlee Long, Brennan Longacre, Ava Longacre, Ivy Gittinger, Betsy Gittinger, Bradley White, Emmalee White, Brody Woody, Gavin Woody, and Kord Woody; and great-great-grandchildren, Meelah Robbins, and Charli Rose Rivera.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; son-in-law, David White; two grandsons, Ernie Fritz, and Michael White; two brothers, Billy Wayne Long, and Bob Long; and one sister, Shirley McKinzie.

A Memorial Service celebrating Marvin’s life will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville with Pastor Dick Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville.
