Lavonia Darlene Kinney

 

Lavonia Darlene Kinney, age 90, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She was born on July 29, 1932, in Coffeyville to Arval Ulyesses and Edna Belle (Rhinehart) George.  Lavonia grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School.

On January 11, 1952, she married Richard P. Kinney in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  The couple made their home in Coffeyville.  Lavonia took pride in everything she did; together she and Richard raised their children the best they could.  In addition to helping with their kids, she did a great job preparing family meals and keeping up with all the other household chores.    

Lavonia was a lifelong member of the Lewark Church of God in Coffeyville; for more than 62 years she served as the church clerk.  She enjoyed spending her free time reading or working puzzle books.  Most of all she loved being with her family and friends.   

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, David Kinney of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Roy Kinney of Coffeyville, Kansas, Sharon Simmons of Earlton, Kansas, ten grandchildren, Preston, Kyle, Nichole, Angela, Richard, Wade, Roxanne, Jessie, Rick and Darryl, forty great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren, one brother, Roger George of Coffeyville, Kansas, numerous nieces, nephews extended relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Kinney (1984), son, Alvin Kinney (2010), stepsons, Darryl ‘Michael’ Kinney (2000) and Keith Kinney, grandson, Larry Don Simmons and two brothers. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.  The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Services for Lavonia will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lewark Church of God in Coffeyville under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Coffeyville.  Keith Dodd and Bishop Charles Walter will officiate.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. 

The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Lewark Church of God; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W Barnes Funeral Home 306 N Cline Rd. Coffeyville, KS 67337.
