David Arthur Vaughn

David Arthur Vaughn, known by all as Nick, age 73, of Edna, Kansas passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Nick was born on December 12, 1948, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Ivan (Ike) Vaughn and Geraldine Vaughn.  He attended high school in Altamont, Kansas.

Nick worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for more than 15 years as a Track Foreman.  After the railroad he helped run the family business well known as Vaughn’s Tavern.  He was a mechanic on the side, both large and small engine repair.  He also worked a number of years at Carter Automotive in Coffeyville.

He retired and moved to Edna, Kansas where he could be found at the Woodshed most of the time twice a day enjoying coffee and daily banter with his good friends.  He enjoyed playing golf and had a special companion in his dog Odie that passed before him.  But most of all he enjoyed his community and the time he spent surrounded by his family and friends.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Dawn Strickland and husband, Allen of Grove, Oklahoma, son, Justin Vaughn of Grove, Oklahoma, son Jeff McCartney and wife, Barbara of Coffeyville, son, Thomas Vaughn of Grove, Oklahoma, sister, Teena Hayhurst and husband, Joe of Arkansas, half-sister, Connie Harder, half-sister, Becky Monday as well as his beloved grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Geraldine Vaughn, brother, Stephen Vaughn, and brother, Ollie (Bubba) Vaughn.

Following Nick's wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

A Graveside Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Union Cemetery in rural Coffeyville. 

 

That afternoon, following the service, a celebration of life will be held at Jacks Place 117 Main St, Liberty, KS 67351 at 5:00 p.m.  Food will be provided via Jacks Grill to those in the funeral party who wish to eat.  Please come out and join the family in the celebration and memory of Nick Vaughn.
