Helen Francis Howard

, age 88 of Coffeyville, KS went to meet the Lord on Monday, February 21, 2022, while a resident at Medicalodges in Coffeyville.  Helen was born on September 29, 1933, in Graham, Texas, but grew up and went to school in Coffeyville, Kansas. Helen was the daughter of Ansel and Ethena Mae (Holman) Howard. She was the oldest daughter of six children:  Helen, James Howard, Leonard Howard, Harry Howard (deceased), Mary Crites (deceased), and Margaret Higgins.

Helen married John Marion Dake of Galena Kansas on June 23, 1956.  She met her future husband when she was introduced to him by her friend Marie (Dake) Lord who just happened to be John’s sister. Helen and John started their first years of marriage while John was in the Army.  Helen wanted to see John when he was on duty in the Army and asked his commanding officer if she could.  The commanding officer told her no, but he told her that John would be walking guarding duty along the fence at a certain time.  So, she walked guard duty with John, he on one side of the fence and she on the other.

Helen and John travelled the United States as John’s job as an electrician took them to Pittsburg, Kansas --Joplin, Missouri, -- Bozeman, Montana, and Penrose, Colorado to name a few of the places they called home during their lives. Helen was a lifelong member of the local Assembly of God Church, in whatever town or city she called home.

Helen was a homemaker who raised four children:  Viola Sue Delcamp, Joyce Elaine Clifford, John Marvin Dake (who preceded Helen in death in 2000), and Linda Kay Dake. Helen was blessed with three grandsons and three great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harry Howard, sister, Mary Crites, and son John Marvin Dake.
