Mary Jacqueline "Jackie" Copeland

Mary Jacqueline "Jackie" Copeland, age 93, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Windsor Place Nursing Home in Coffeyville.

 

Jackie was born on July 17, 1928, in Winfield, Kansas to Orman L. Taylor, Jr. and Mary S. (Rutherford) Taylor.  She graduated from Sedan High School in Sedan, Kansas.

 

On August 18, 1946, she married the love of her life, Wallace Harold Copeland in Sedan, Kansas.  The couple made their home in Wichita, Kansas for the first year.  The couple then moved to Arkansas City, Kansas in 1947.  They had one son, Michael, that they adored.  Jackie and Wallace shared 23 wonderful years together.  He preceded her in death on December 4, 1969.

 

Jackie was an excellent piano and organ player.  This led her to teaching piano, organ and voice from 1958-2002.  She was active in the annual recitals that were held either at the college or at their home in Arkansas City.  She was a past president of the Arkansas City Music & Dramatics Club and past president of the Kansas Music & Dramatics Club from 1970-1971.  She was a former member of the Iola Municipal Band and the Coffeyville Municipal Band which she enjoyed being a part of very much.

 

In 1969, Jackie became a licensed insurance agent, she worked for Equitable Life Insurance Society out of Wichita, Kansas for several years.  Eventually, complications of working long distance led to her separation from Equitable.  She then worked for Aetna Insurance and several others for many years.

 

In 1977, Jackie moved to Coffeyville, Kansas and has resided there ever since.  She was a member of the South Coffeyville Methodist Church where she served as organist for 12 years.  Jackie was strong in her faith; she always found a church to attend wherever she was living.  She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

 

Surviving to honor her memory are her son, Michael Copeland and wife, Katie of Dallas, Texas, grandchildren, Amy Copeland of Dallas, Texas, Stephen Copeland and wife, Sara of College Station, Texas, great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Emily and John Copeland along with other extended relatives and close friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Orman Taylor Jr. and Mary Taylor, and by her loving husband, Wallace Harold Copeland.

 

Graveside Services will be held at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery near Arkansas City, Kansas.  The details of the graveside service will be announced at a later date.

 

The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society or to your local food bank; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N. Cline Rd., Coffeyville, KS 67337.
